10 Things a college student needs to do before exams
1. Attend every class
Sometimes teachers will let you re-edit that paper that everyone did badly on during class, or offer some unexpected extra credit…but you’ll never know if you don't go.
2. Write all you exam times down and post it in your room.
Nothing works more efficiently than having all your exam times written down on one sheet. Then when you get anxious or forgetful just quickly look back to reassure yourself.
3. Go see teachers for extra help
Even if you don’t need the extra help, you professor really does love to see you come in and ask a few questions during office hours. Scoring a few brownie points never hurt anyone and maybe you’ll see a different side of your professor that you never would have during that 50 minute lecture.
4. Make time for yourself
As a social butterfly this is a hard thing for me to do. But try to spend half an hour alone each day doing whatever you want. You may find it nice to no longer hear your friends complain about upcoming assignments or professors.
5. Go to the store
It’s finally exam week and you’ve been in the library studying for hours. You need a snack and are left to try your luck with the vending machine hoping it doesn’t eat your quarters or that bag of Doritos doesn’t get stuck. To avoid this carve out an hour before exam week starts to go to the store and get a few snacks that you’re going to want to eat during those all-nighters .
6. Check you syllabus!!!
Even the A student can’t remember everything that has been done the whole semester. Check the syllabus for last minute assignments and look to see if your exam is cumulative….let’s hope it’s not.
7. Talk to other people in your classes
Besides your friends get to know a few other people…maybe even the A student in your class if that isn’t already you. That way when exam week comes around you can ask others in your class to get a study group going.
8. Get sleep
Not only is this important during exam week but also in the weeks before it. You’ll feel less tired during exam week if you’ve been able to get some sleep the weeks before hand.
9. Use you weekends!
Plan your weekends out so that you can take advantage of everyday. Don't make Sunday a long day to be held up in the library studying all day. Instead Study for a few hours friday, a few hours on Saturday, and a few on Sunday. This leaves you time each day to be with friends, go to the gym, or take a much needed nap without feeling guilty knowing that you need to study.
10. Summer is right around the corner!!!
Keep the end goal in sight. Nothing motivates a college student more than time off in the sun…good luck studying, may the odds be ever in your favor!
