10 Things To Be Thankful For At Wagner College
Olivia Melillo

During this time of the year, we find ourselves reflecting on all things we should be thankful for. Whether that be your parents buying you a new car a few months ago or your professor canceling class the day your 12 page paper was due, giving you the weekend to procrastinate just as much as the first time around. We all have the little things in life we're happy to have whether they be daily or yearly occurrences. But one thing any given Wagner Student can tell you is that no matter how much they may hate the school, they’re thankful for these 10 vital things.

  1. Being able to leave your dorm and make it to any other destination on campus on time.
  2. Never walking more than 30 feet and seeing someone you know.
  3. The self motivation to go to class because the largest classes are 30 people and the professor WILL know you are not there.
  4. The smell of deep fryers lingering in the air while walking to union.
  5. No matter what building you live in, you can get your take out delivered right to the door.
  6. The school provides transportation from the ferry back to campus so you do not have to pay for a taxi every time you go out to the city.
  7. You can get a 4 year bachelor's degree and be deemed employable without being all that skilled.
  8. Sometimes the public safety personnel driving around in golf carts will take you to your building if they’re feeling generous.
  9. There are several performances on campus during the year so there is always an opportunity to go get some fun and free entertainment.
  10. No matter where you go in life, Wagner will always be there with open arms.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
