Shout out to all of my theater friends/lifelong partners in crime. This one's for you.
1. How to Respect Other People
In theater, you have to play a lot of different roles and understand many different perspectives. In order to portray these characters accurately, you have to learn to respect for (even if you don't
necessarily agree with) their view points.
2. How to Be on Time
Being early is on time and being on time is late. It's the theater maxim.
3. To Appreciate Artistic Endeavors (Struggles)
You understand "starving artist" on a whole new level.
4. How to Answer Questions with Poise
People will ask you so many times, "Why theater?," or, "Do you have a back-up plan?," that you've considered recording your answer and replaying it each time someone new asks you. But you smile and (calmly) explain that this is what you love to do.5. How to Work with Others
Unless you're Lea Michele, you can't afford to be a diva. If you don't get along with your director/stage manager/other actors, you can guarantee you won't be working in the business for long.
6. How to Memorize (Quickly)
Monologue, monologue, dialogue, monologue. And I have how many more days until the off-book date?
7. That Your Favorite People in the World Are the People You Can Sing Musical Numbers With
Breaking out back stage into song and dance without judgment is really an underrated quality.8. How to Act in Front of an Audience
This doesn't just apply on stage. Theater gives you the confidence to give speeches and presentations in front of groups. It makes public speaking less scary. It teaches you to have a presence that translates in numerous other scenarios.
9. That Nothing is More Impressive than a Person Who Can Make You Laugh and Cry Within The Same Show
When you watch an excellent actor, it is a completely life-changing experience. And then you inspire to be him/her for the rest of your life.10. That Theater is the Best
And I write this from a completely unbiased viewpoint.
