I would write an entry paragraph to this article, but honestly if you opened it you probably already knew what you were getting into and wanted to affirm that it wasn't just you thinking these things about this (obsessively) wonderful show.
1. It was something to binge watch (procrastinate with).
I couldn't begin to tell you the number of times I would look at my agenda planner and know good and well I did not have time to watch OTH. What did I do you ask? I watched One Tree Hill. Every single time. Without fail. Whoops... sorry mom.
2. It was something to bond over.
Freshman year is awkward for a lot of reasons. The primary reason was the sheer volume of surface level small-talk conversations. Want to make new friends? Start singing "I don't wanna be anything other than what I've been tryna be lately" and throw Lucas Scott into the mix. Boom. Friendships.
3. It was something to relate to.
This show was the single most relatable show I have ever watched. It is realistic. It doesn't cover up all of the struggles that come with life. I don't think that there is a person on this earth that can't (in some way) relate to this show. It isn't conformity. Its just the truth.
4. It made me emotional.
Honestly this is a very important part of freshman year. Sometimes you need a good laugh or a good cry. One Tree Hill had me in tears from one of the two every episode without fail.
5. It inspired me.
NBA? Clothing line? Best selling movie? Air force pilot? Singer? Writer? Photographer? Agent? THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS. Which is a good thing. Sometimes we get stuck and think that we are limited. OTH would say that you're not.
6. It allowed me to reminisce.
You can pretend that you don't miss high school. And maybe you don't, but the vast majority would say theres something reminiscent about lockers and class changes and even the stupid petty social cliques. OTH left me stuck somewhere between "aw I kinda miss that" and "phew I never have to go back there again"
7. It gave me things to look forward to.
Sometimes freshman year can bog you down. OTH reminded me that there is so much more to this life than just studying for tests.
8. It made working out easier.
If you can run on the elliptical without watching Netflix, teach me your ways. Until then I'll be over here getting my OTH fix and getting fit.
9. It made me believe in myself.
There was something inspirational about this show. Test grades, homesickness, organizations and people might say no. OTH always says yes, you can.
10. Brooke Davis.
Enough said.
