Living with a new person is one of the scariest things about college. You don’t know their habits, their personalities, their likes/dislikes. Sometimes you just luck out and get placed with someone you actually were meant to find. And when that happens, college gets 10 times better.
1. Vent to each other
No matter how bad your day is, you can always count on the fact that you can come back to your room and tell your roommate about it. She has your back and will listen to you vent, even about the stupid stuff.
2. Have the same shoes
Sometimes you end up wearing one of your shoes and one of hers because you have the same pair. Nbd as she’s doing the same thing. What else are best friends for??
3. Finish each other’s sentences
No matter if it’s telling a joke or ranting about some stupid thing that happened, your roommate can finish your sentences and you, hers. It’s weird, sometimes, but mostly funny, and it reminds you that yes, someone is always inside your head.
4. Have inside jokes
If your roommate is your best friend, it’s a guarantee that when y’all are out in public together, you will start laughing uncontrollably. And no one will know why.
5. Proofread each other’s text messages
You never have to worry about saying the wrong thing or offending anyone ever again. If she proofreads it, you’re good to go.
6. Share clothes
Can’t find the perfect outfit to wear on Friday night? She’ll hook you up. She needs advice on an outfit? You got her.
7. Fight
Obviously it wouldn’t be a best friendship without the fighting. Whether a playful back and forth or an actual disagreement, don’t even get upset about it because y’all will be back to normal within three hours. You do live together...
8. Share food
In a small room with two hungry college students, it’s inevitable that you share food. Whether it’s Ruffles, candy, or takeout Chinese, you can bet that sharing food is a requirement.
9. Do each other’s hair
So maybe one of you is better at doing hair than the other...but it’s still a bonding experience! Dancing around and getting ready together to go out is one of the prime things about rooming with your bestie.
10. Take care of each other
College is hard and stressful. You need at least one person you can take your guard down with. You can be raw, honest, and open, and that’s the best part about living with your best friend. She’ll pick you up when you’re down and put you back together when you’re broken. And you’ll do the same for her because that’s what best friends do.
Thanks, Res Life and Housing for introducing me to my best friend!
