Moving. Anytime I hear this word, I just imagine the struggle, the complicated problems that come up, the pain in your back from lifting and the terrible attitude everyone develops from being tired and over the whole situation. Recently, I made move number 15 in my 20-year-life, and this particular move was the worst experience of my life. So to make light of the situation, I would like to express 10 things that happen when moving.
1. Realizing how many clothes you have.
One of the worst parts about moving is having to realize how many clothes you have and having to pack all of them as well as sorting and washing all of them. Sometimes, I consider throwing them all away and starting over, but that seems to never be in the budget.
2. Pets and boxes.
I personally have a cat and the struggle became real when I had to start packing boxes. I had more boxes than anything in this move and my cat was never so happy in her life. Strange enough, the joy they gain from the boxes makes everything a little less stressful (only sometimes though).
3. Realizing you're not in shape.
Out of all the things that come with moving, the worst is realizing how out of shape you are when you're carrying a million boxes and you are dying on the inside and out. Just take a deep breath and understand there is no going back.
4. Finding essentials in the new place.
The part I personally hate the most is not being able to find anything that I am looking for like tooth paste, forks, cups or anything else that you basically use every day of your life.
5. Calling the important people.
With every new place, there are a million and one phone calls that must be made like electric, Internet and anything else that may apply. For many of us, being on the phone is our worst nightmare and will go to great lengths to avoid calling. Too bad when you move there is no way to avoid it. Eventually, you will just become angry from the amount of times you may be transferred and/or put on hold.
6. Finding broken items.
Oh, the best part of it all, when you open a box to only find that something you value is broke. In my recent case, one of my favorite glasses was broken. I seriously love moving for this reason (major sarcasm intended).
7. Building furniture.
I hated this part with a burning passion within my heart. While I had moved out from living with my now ex, I had a lack of furniture, so I had to buy some cheaper items, which resulting in building six different things and let me tell you, I'm no craftsman.
8. Begging friends to help.
No one likes moving, so finding friends who are willing to go on this adventure with you may be difficult. They saw they will always be there, but moving is that one exception where they will all just run away.
9. Changing your address for everything.
Now that you have moved, you must have forwarding address along with changing your banks, credit cards, loans and any other thing that must have your address. It's sometimes a real process.
10. Relief is here.
It's done, you're done and everything is back to normal. Congratulations, you have now officially survived moving.
