If you go to school across a few state lines or across the country, like myself, you hate playing the "say your name, major, and where you are from game." As soon as you get to that third piece of criteria and announce you're from far away people immediately look at you wide-eyed and start spewing of questions and comments. Here are a few we are all really sick of hearing. And the sassy remarks we wish we could make:
1. Aren't you going to miss your family?
OBVIOUSLY!! I love my family and my friends from home, but my family loves me and knows this was the best for me.
2. Why'd did you come all the way from ______ to just go to _____?
Why did you come 20 minutes to go here? Simply answered: because I love this school.
3. How do you afford the travel?
A lot of frequent flyer miles and booking flights way in advance.
4. So do you like home or here better?
Home is home so it's always going to have a special place in my heart. But, I love my college-town too. I have learned and grown so much in so many different ways at both. It's really like comparing apples and oranges.
5. You're so brave! I could never go that far!
I really deserve a medal. Ha.
6. Now that you're here you have to root for (insert closest major league sports team name here)!
This is probably my number one pet peeve. I am always 100% loyal to my home team and that will never change. (#goSFgiants)
7. Why don't you just go home over spring break?
(See question #3.)
8. When you applied you probably had an edge because they don't get many people from your state to apply?
Maybe, but nothing was handed to me because of my address. I worked hard to get here just like you.
9. Whoa that's a big weather adjustment!
Yeah you're right but I have an app on my phone that allows me to know the weather every day so I will survive.
10. Do you plan on staying here or going back home after you graduate?
Just like you I have no idea what I will do after I graduate. But, unlike you I have at least 2 options.
