If you're like me, you dread giving presentations and speeches. It's not that I can't do it because I can (and have) delivered some fantastic presentations during my college career. It's just that I don't want to. It's incredibly intimidating for me. I'd rather sit down and have a personal conversation. I can relay the same information I could in a speech or a presentation, but I am ten times more comfortable. It's not me to give a speech. It's not me to stand up and talk to a group of people. There are 10 things I'd rather do than give a speech or presentation.

1. Write a paper

I'm probably still going to complain and procrastinate on the assignment. I am, however, more talented at conveying my message and thoughts through words on a paper than speech. I have time to double and triple check my self. I can clear up confusions and keep my anxiety in check on a piece of paper.

2. Run a mile

I'll just leave you by saying I haven't ran a mile since my junior year of high school, and I'm a senior in college. If you see me running, you should also probably be running.

3. Stay awake for 24 hours straight

I like my sleep. Correction- I love my sleep and any lack of wouldn't be pleasant for anyone

4. Do laundry

I dread doing laundry. It's one of those chores I always put off until I've been wearing the same sweatshirt for five days straight.

5. Read a book

I have a long list of books I want to read but I can never find the time to finish one.

6. Go without coffee

This is a struggle for any college student.

7. Play with my cats

I love my cats like they are my own children. My two kitties are adorable and they deserve all the attention I can give!

8. Take a math class

Math is my weakest academic strength. Once letters are involved in any mathematical calculation, I am totally lost. Even when someone tries to explain math to me, it sounds like a foreign language to me.

9. Wear jeans

I can't remember the last time I wore a pair jeans. This might sound extremely over-dramatic, but yes I'd rather wear the most uncomfortable piece of clothing for an entire day then prepare and give a presentation.

9. Go a day unorganized

Organization is how I keep my head on straight. My planner and endless sticky notes get me through my day. I'd rather go a day without knowing whats on my list of things to do than give a speech.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
