10 Things To Do On Your Rainy Summer Days

Summer is undoubtedly the most exciting time of the year in every college student's life. It beats formal season, it beats the fall and pumpkin spice latte, and yes- it even beats Christmas. Summer is filled with endless days of laying out with your friends relaxing by the pool and long summer nights spent out on the town or having a bonfire with your best friends around you because you are FINALLY free from the grind of tests and term papers… but with summer, inevitably comes the summer rain. Although inconvenient, it should not stop you from having a fun filled day, even when skies are grey!

1. Do a puzzle.

It's not nearly as lame as it sounds, and you will feel like a kid again laying all the pieces out on the floor and trying to recreate the masterpiece on the front of the box

2. Give yourself a full mani and pedi.

Your toes probably look like Bilbo Baggins', and your fingers probably look like the witch from hansel and Gretel from being too busy with friends to give them the care they need, this is your chance!

3. Start a craft.

Get some head start crafting done for your friends upcoming birthday, or just make something new for your room at school. Maybe even make a few things to send to your friends that are abroad this summer just to let them know you are thinking of them.

4. Bake.

EVERYONE loves some sort of baked good (if you know someone that doesn't… run, they can't be trusted!). Make them for yourself, your parents, grandparents, your roommates, the homeless, WHOEVER, baking is a great and fun (delicious) way to pass the time.

5. Read a book.

There are few things more peaceful in this world than just sitting in bed or in a comfy chair all snuggled up next to a window with the sound of rain. It's the 100 percent answer to everything, as far as I am concerned, and something that you rarely get the time to do at school

6. Reorganize your room, and clean out your closet.

Yes, this is not as fun as the other things on this list but probably one of the most necessary. Take this time to get rid of the clothes you have been holding on to for the past 6 years because you're "Definitely going to wear it some day". That day has not come, and it probably is never going to, so it's time to say to goodbye! Also, clean out the litany of old knick knacks that have commandeered your shelves and have done nothing but collect dust for years. This might be a packrats nightmare, but oh, the freedom once they're gone!

7. Deep condition your hair.

Brave the storm and pick up a good deep conditioner from the store. Chances are your hair has probably significant dried out this summer due to the swimming pool/lake/ocean/etc. Take this opportunity to give your locks the love they desperately need!

8. Have an indoor game night with friends.

Invite over your closest friends and have everyone bring one board or card game. The kick: no one can sleep until every single board game has been played!

9. Binge-watch movies.

Not just normal movies- pick a decade for the day, and stick to it! Have a day long 90's movie marathon and relive your childhood, or have a 60's/70's one and relive your parents!

10. Write.

Even if you're not J.K. Rowling or someone who particularly loves writing, get out a pen and paper, your tablet, whatever you prefer, and just take the time to document how your summer is going, how your school year went, etc. You can relive awesome memories, and you can create something to look back on on those sentimental kind of days.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
