Although we have all been privy to tattoos gone wrong, some of us put lots of time and money into these works of art. We carefully select an artist, some spend weeks to months communicating with their artist about what exactly they want, and then pay hundreds of dollars to have it done right. For tattoo fanatics, our bodies are our canvases. These tattoos because part of us, and we see that everyday when we look into the mirror. So when we hear these 10 comments, we can't help but cringe.
1. "Did they hurt?"
It is different for everyone, but in general a needle going in and out of your skin 50 to 3,000 times in a minute will hurt.
2. "Those aren't going to look good when you're older, like when you're a mom or a grandma."
You know, it didn't even occur to me when I was spending $500 to put something on my body permanently what it will look like. Not at all.
3. "What do they mean?"
Some tattoos have meanings, but a lot of times we just really appreciate the artistic value of a piece of work. So making it seem like a mistake if it doesn't have some grandiose deeper meaning is super annoying.
4. "How many do you have? How many more are you going to get?"
I don't know if you've heard, but tattoos are pretty addicting so I have no clue when it's going to stop. Probably never.
5. "Do you have any in hidden places?"
Please, just don't ask this. Just don't.
6. "How are you going to, like, get a job with those?"
Well, I have a job first of all. And second, I don't know, maybe based on my qualifications.
7. "Good thing those can be easily covered."
Yeah, good thing. But even if they couldn't be, I'd still love my ink.
8. "How much did that cost you?"
Can we not talk about it? That part was more painful than the tattoo itself.
9. "I just think tattoos look kind of trashy, but, like, yours are nice."
Gee, thanks. Glad to hear it.
10. "My friend's cousin's brother-in-law does tattoos, do you know him?"
Yes, I know every tattoo artist that ever lived because I have tattoos.
Make sense now? When you've put something on your body permanently and all you hear are borderline rude comments, well, it sucks. Dear tattoo virgins, be mindful about how you approach an ink-adorned buddy. They may be different from you, but only skin deep. And ink heads, remember not everyone is going to see this article. So if someone makes a nasty comment, just let it slide off your beautifully tattooed back and go get yourself some more ink.
