I have lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma ever since I was three years old and moving away to go to college was definitely hard. I love Tulsa even though it seems boring at times. I love the people and the shops, but I definitely don't miss 71st traffic. Here are 10 things only people from Tulsa will understand:
1. The traffic on 71st will make you think it's Christmas and people are having to go buy presents last minute.
No matter what time of the year it is, the traffic on 71st is almost always a nightmare.
2. Quik-Trip is the end all-be all of convince stores/gas stations.
Want a hot slice of pizza or a chocolate shake? Quik-Trip has it all and it actually tastes good, unlike regular gas station food!
3. Do not drive down 169 at rush hour.
What is normally a 15-minute drive will turn into 45 minutes to an hour. If you value your time and your gas, avoid 169 at rush hour.
4. Union versus Jenks.
One of the biggest high school rivalries in the nation. And just because I went to Union from pre-k until I graduated, GO UNION! (Sorry Sierra, I just can't say anything but 'go Union')
5. Woodland Hills Mall (AKA the only good mall in Tulsa).
While there is the Promenade Mall (which is on the verge of closing) Woodland Hills is the ultimate hang out/shopping place.
6. The BOK Center and Cains Ballroom.
All the best concerts happen there, and these were definitely the best things to happen to downtown Tulsa.
7. Mondo's Italian Restaurant on Peoria.
This place has the best Italian food I have ever tasted. The next time you're in Tulsa, I highly recommend you go.
8. Going to the Admiral Twin on the weekends.
Not only do you go to the drive-in, but you sneak your friends in by having them hide under a blanket on the floor of your car to get in for free. After the original Admiral Twin burned down and the new one was built, it has become a top movie spot.
9. Nightmare at Guts Church.
Everyone who has lived in Tulsa since middle school has been to Nightmare and it never fails to scare every person who walks through the doors. Nightmare is a Halloween staple in Tulsa.
