10 Things Only Earlybirds Can Relate To

They really do get the worm!

Let's be honest, if you're a morning person in college, you're in very slim company. If you ever make the mistake of revealing your wake-up time to people, you'll either get stupefied comments of disbelief, or hear people saying they wish they could be more like you. And when you actually find someone who is also an early bird, you discover that you have a lot of things eerily in common. For example...

1. Mornings make you happy

It's crazy, but it's true. You're not repeatedly hitting the snooze button and dragging yourself out of bed--when you wake up you're up, and you're ready to go! How great is it that you don't have to dread your feet hitting the floor in the morning?

2. You're so productive when others are still snoozing

You'll have gotten ready for the day and finished some chores by the time those night owls wake up. It gives you a thrill of excitement--it feels like you're cheating the system. Maybe people think you're crazy when you get up at the break of dawn, but hey, it's their loss.

3. Your alarm isn't really necessary

You've heard plenty of stories about people's alarm troubles, but you don't really get it. You're awake five minutes or so before you alarm goes off, and you're ready to start your day. It's not like you don't set an alarm just in case--you do--but more often than not your internal clock has woken you up before your real alarm has. It's one of your many superpowers.

4. Caffeine is just an extra boost

While most of the time you don't even need it to take on the day, it makes those slower mornings move just a little bit faster. Coffee is best enjoyed in the quiet of the morning, anyway.

5. You have to tip-toe around those late sleepers

It's already 8 a.m.! How can you possibly still be sleeping? Get up, let's get going!

6. Always being the first one awake at sleepovers and hookups

Do I just lay here? I can't really wake them up. Maybe I'll see if their cat is awake yet...

7. By lunchtime it feels like the day should be over

I've been up since 5 a.m. Is the day over yet? A nap sounds so good right now.

8. Watching the sunrise

It feels like a hidden gem since most people aren't awake to see it. Just one of the many early-morning perks!

9. You're pretty much a zombie after 10 p.m.

I repeat, I've been up since 5 a.m. Do we really have to go out so late? I know it'll be fun, but my bed is calling my name right now.

10. Night owls hate you

Sorry that my alarm wakes you up at the break of dawn sometimes. In my defense, you often keep me up late too. It evens out.

I swear we're not crazy. We'd love to sleep in if it were possible. But until that happens, we'll never fully understand how night owls can function, and you'll probably never understand our early bird ways.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
