1. Flex
Normal People: When people flex, they tighten their muscles to showcase them.
Dancers: You flex your feet, not your muscles. It's the opposite of pointing them.
2. Scorpion
Normal People: A scorpion is a poisonous and slightly terrifying arthropods.
Dancers: It's just a dance move, AKA a needle/full back extension.
3. Fishnets
Normal People: Sometimes fishnets are a fashion disaster, sometimes they compliment your favorite concert outfit.
Dancers: Fishnets are just another layer of tights we have to put on that often are not even visible from the audience.
4. Counting
Normal People: 1, 2, 3, 4 ... We count everything — days, money, groceries.
Dancers: 5, 6, 7, 8 ... We count to keep track of when we're supposed to perform specific moves.
5. Turns
Normal People: A turn is a way to change direction.
Dancers: Pirouettes, fouettes, piques, etc. Turns are very important and quite common in most styles of dance.
6. Fondue
Normal People: Fondue is melted cheese or melted chocolate that you dip other food into.
Dancers: Fondue is a ballet exercise in which you bend both legs before you slowly and simultaneously straighten and extend them.
7. Attitude
Normal People: A person's attitude is his manner/disposition.
Dancers: An attitude is a ballet position in which your working leg is not fully extended.
8. Bar(re)
Normal People: The bar is a place to get drinks and have a good time with your friends.
Dancers: The barre is where you spend about half of your ballet class.
9. Gold
Normal People: A gold is the highest possible achievement.
Dancers: There are usually two or three awards higher than a gold ...
10. First
Normal People: Whatever is first is what you put before everything else.
Dancers: First is a ballet position in which your heels are together and your legs and feet are turned out.
