Nacogdoches, Texas is not only "The Oldest Town in Texas," but also is home to the Stephen F. Austin State University, Lumberjacks. Being a small town, it can be questioned what all Nacogdoches has to offer. Here are some of the many great activities and events that Nacogdoches has in store this fall.

1. Tailgates at SFA

Nacogdoches may be a small College town, but we Lumberjacks know how to throw an awesome tailgate for our SFA football team. Waking up early on a Saturday morning may not sound appealing, but when it comes to free food, music, and friends, tailgating is just something you don't want to miss out on during the Fall season.

2. Homecoming Parade

During the fall season SFA has its annual Homecoming parade in Downtown Nacogdoches. Students who are apart of an organization, such as Greek Life, the Football Team, and more all participate in the parade for the Nacogdoches community. Fraternities and Sororities also compete to see who can create the biggest and most decorative float for the Homecoming theme! This is a great way for students to interact with the community!

3. Halloween

Halloween is the best time to dress up and make memories with your friends. There are many events to look forward to on Halloween. What's the best thing to do on Halloween in Nac? Fraternity Parties! Not every fraternity throws parties, but from past experiences, spending your Halloween at these parties will make your fall season.

4. The Weather

Okay, East Texas is hot year-round, but when it reaches to the cooler side of fall, it is time for a few changes. Ladies, this means bringing out the fuzzy vests and riding boots. This honestly is the best thing about fall!

5. Thanksgiving Break

Although college is a blast, students cannot WAIT to have a breather from countless hours of studying, tests, and midterms. Thanksgiving for college students means lots of food (that isn't from the EC or Ramen Noodles) and getting to see your family!

6. Pumpkin Patch- Christ Episcopal School

Every October, The Christ Episcopal School on N. Mound St, has their annual pumpkin patch. This is a huge must-do in October and is walking distance from campus. This isn't just any pumpkin patch, but is one that has around 1,800 pumpkins and is open to the public!

7. Nacogdoches Farmer's Market Fall Fling

This annual event is filled with many vendors, live entertainment, and LOTS of food! Vendors sell a variety of fresh goods, such as homemade soaps and lotions, wine, cheese, fruits, and TONS more! This year, the event will be Saturday, October 8th in Downtown Nacogdoches!

8. Bonfires with Friends

Nothing is better than sitting by a warm fire with a bunch of friends, am I right? On a cold East-Texas night, the best thing to ease your stress is to call up your friends, grab the marshmallows, and kick it back by a fire.

9. Battle of the Piney Woods

Every year SFA's football team takes on their rivalry school, Sam Houston State University. This event takes place at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Not only do you get to tailgate and watch SFA take on Sam Houston, but you get to experience it in the city! This year Battle of the Piney Woods is on Saturday, October 1st!

10. And Finally, Making Memories at the Best University

I know everyone thinks that whichever College they attend is the best one ever.. but let's be real.. SFA is much more unique than other colleges. SFA may be small in size, but the community of Nacogdoches and the students who attend here make it feel like a home away from home. Fall means that it is the beginning of another year of memories to come, friends to make, and goals to achieve! AXE EM'

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
