Spring semester

10 Things To Look Forward To

Spring semester is always my favorite. Although there aren't as many holidays and breaks as fall semester there are 10 things that make me look forward to it each year.

1. The warmth is coming.

It may seem so far away and impossible but trust me, the warmth will be here before we know it.

2.You have a fresh start.

You don't have to stress about the classes that kept you up until 3 am last semester, they're over!

3. New semester, new people.

You never know who you will have classes with, who you will pass on your way to class, who will be in the dining halls when you are there. All of these fresh faces are opportunities for new friends.

4. You are one semester closer to graduating.

This one makes me a little nervous BUT sometimes I feel like my college career is never ending and my classes are driving me crazy. So this is a reminder that with each passing semester I am approaching adulthood. (YIKES)

5. Better weather, more things to do.

As the weather starts to clear up and get nicer people are more inclined to want to go outside and make the most of the day. You will see everyone out on the "green" or your campus common area, going for hikes, and being in all around better moods!

6. My birthday.

This probably doesn't concern any of you at all BUT I will be turning 20 this semester and entering a new decade of my life so this had to make the list.

7. You know what works and what doesn't.

You've had a semester or so to get down a routine that works for you and you also have found out what doesn't work. This semester you don't have to waste as much time trying to do so.

8. New goals.

You have hopefully set some new goals for yourself for 2017 that you can now put to the test.

9. New music, movies, and trends.

Not only is it a new semester, but it's a new year. This means there will be all new media moves, music, movies, trends, and everything in between.

10. You are still thriving.

Although you may not think so, making it to another semester of college is a blessing. You have your health, your education, and your sanity! Go make the most of it, some people don't get the chance to.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
