As a native Houstonian, I thought I should write about my experience in Dallas thus far and what it has taught me. So here are 10 things that living in Dallas has taught me so far.
1. Everything is at least a 30 minute drive away.
My gas expenses have skyrocketed.
2. It is possible to have a perfect mix of suburb and city.
Dallas is gorgeous, I'll give it that.
3. There is construction EVERYWHERE.
Oh, you wanted to take your regular route to your coffee shop this morning? Well, think again because that route and pretty much any other one you can think of is bound to be blocked off or down to five mile an hour traffic.
4. People in Dallas will not hesitate to drive the exact speed limit or at least 10 below.
Sure, the speed limits here are all 10 mph higher than Houston's, but that doesn't stop everyone from driving like snails.
8. Besides going well under the speed limit, it also appears that the DMV just hands out licenses here.
People in Dallas are terrible drivers. It's like no one ever taught them what courteous driving is. Oh, you need to change lanes? Sure, just don't look and almost hit my car.
5. On a completely unrelated note, there seem to be at least five accidents every time I go out.
Sarcasm. That was absolute sarcasm. I didn't know it was possible to have five accidents along the same stretch of highway within 30 minutes of driving, but apparently it is.
6. The police are really big on speed traps at night.
It's always funny driving at night because it's like one big festive police trap.
7. The oriental food is unparalleled.
While Houston does have some of the best American food, Dallas has got them beat when it comes to oriental food.
9. It's either below freezing or apocalyptically hot; there is no in between.
Seriously, there is no in between.
10. If you don't like the weather, wait until tomorrow.
On the bright side, it could just as well be zero tomorrow if it was a 100 today.
