1. I'm bad at change.
As much as I love fresh starts and new beginnings, I am not good at them. I’m not good at starting over. I hate the unknown. Creating a new routine at college was really hard and I felt very lost for awhile.
2. I took for granted how lucky I am.
Until I moved away from home, I never realized how lucky I was to have home-cooked meals every night or a mother to do my laundry. I never realized how lucky I was to have someone pull me out of bed, so I wasn’t late for school. But I also never realized how lucky I was to have grown up the way I did.
3. I need to learn how to be more patient.
Good things take time. You’re going to make a few wrongs before you make a right and you’re going to meet a few crappy people before you meet the really good ones. It’s the way life goes and it takes some adjusting to.
4. I'm a dependent person with an independent soul.
I like to think I’m independent, but until I came to college I had no idea just how much I relied on other people. I love doing my own thing and being on my own, but when it comes to the little things like calling a doctor or going grocery shopping, I always relied on my mom to do that.
5. I'm messy.
At home, I had a huge room and a cleaning lady to clean up after me, so I never noticed how messy I was. My dorm room is a lot smaller than my room at home, so the clothes pile up so much faster resulting in the conclusion that I’m a messy person.
6. I am my own best friend, but also my own biggest enemy.
I’m the only one who can push myself to be the best me that I can be, but I’m also the only one who drags myself down. I am my only limit.
7. I can't control everything.
I’m going to gain some weight, I’m going to fail a test or two, I’m going to be disliked by some people, but hey, that’s life and I can’t control it all. In high school, I was a perfectionist and it led me to always be unhappy. Perfection does not exist. So now, I just strive to be my best.
8. I'm a really great friend.
I’ve become that friend that delivers Cookout milkshakes to my friends at the library at 1 a.m., and the one who always wants to take you out to dinner to hear about your week. But I am also the one who will text you a funny picture or joke to let them know I’m thinking about you.
9. I suck at communication.
I should really call my parents more than once a week or check in on my friends from home more often. I’m really bad at keeping in touch, but hey, that's what Facebook is for.
10. My past does not define me.
Who I was in high school does not and will not dictate who I will become in college.
