10 Things To Do Instead Of Sitting On The Couch All Day

Now that summer is finally here you now have all the free time in the world to do whatever you want! You could take the easy route and stay inside all day sitting on the couch munching on chips, but what's the fun in that? You are finally free of studying for exams and writing papers so why not live it up? It's important to cherish these few months you have off from school so don't waste them. Here are 10 fun ways to spend your summer days.

1. Go to a concert.

Summertime is the primetime for concerts, so grab some tickets to your favorite artists and go have the night of your life!

2. Have a bonfire.

There's nothing that screams summer more than gathering around a fire with friends making s'mores and catching up on everyone's college stories.

3. Read a book.

No, this is not a textbook you have to read 50 pages for next class, but rather a good book for your own enjoyment. You can even lay outside to work on your tan while enjoying a good read.

4. Go hiking.

Grab a backpack and stuff it with water and granola bars then hit the trails! Be sure to go with friends just in case you're anything like me and get lost along the way.

5. Get a summer job.

Being a broke college kid is rough, so getting a summer job is a must. That hard earned money will come in handy down the road when you need to do laundry or your many coffee runs.

6. Go to the drive-ins.

There are so many good movies coming out this summer so why not see them on the big screen in the comfort of your car? Load up your car with blankets, snacks, and friends and enjoy a night out at the drive-ins.

7. Head to the beach.

Whether its for the week or just for the weekend any time at the beach is better than no time. So pack a bathing suit and towel and head to the beach to enjoy people watching while getting horrible tan lines.

8. Take a road trip.

Fill up your gas tank, pick up some friends, and hit the road with either a known or unknown destination. Don't forget to aux-cord or a CD you burned so you have endless tunes to jam to.

9. Go to an amusement park.

Whether it's Disney, Hershey Park, Six Flags, Knoebles, or even a local fair go enjoy the rush of roller coasters and the view from the top of the Ferris wheel.

10. Make time for yourself.

There is this pressure that you have to live up your summer and should be doing something fun everyday, but you don't. It's OK to spend the whole day in bed and do absolutely nothing. You aren't wasting your days, you're making time for yourself. Summer is a time to de-stress, discover, create, adventure. Do what you've been putting off all year, I'm sure you won't regret it.

Now that you are motivated, get off that couch and go do something productive today!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
