10 Things I'll Miss About FGCU
SSDP

I'm graduating Saturday. I'm graduating Saturday. It hasn't fully hit me yet. I feel like there's so much I haven't done that constitutes me as a college graduate. I still haven't decorated my cap. I haven't taken pictures in my regalia down the boardwalk or in front of the school sign or in front of the Lutgert fountain. I'm still in the mindset that I will be returning next semester just like everyone else, but alas, it's time for me to enter the real world. Because I'm in this mindset, I haven't taken the time to appreciate my campus before I'm off to bigger and better things. Here are ten things I'll miss about FGCU as I begin my life as a college graduate.

1.) 24/7 at ClubLib

Why is this number one? Why would you even miss cramming for those final projects into the early hours of the morning? Let me tell you something. Nothing brings people together more than 24/7 at the library. Everyone feels your pain. Everyone is in the same boat. It is the one place on campus that feels like a community come finals week. Not that I don't appreciate the library at other times of the year, because I totally do. But, those of you who have pulled all-nighters during finals week know what I'm talking about.

2.) Nature Trails

Granted, I didn't take a walk on the trails until Colloquium, but it's something unique to our campus that allows you to go and lose yourself in nature. I just wish our field trip would've been at the time when the cypress domes were knee deep in water so I could float away from all of my stress.

3.) Multicultural and Leadership Development Office

MLD was the first place I felt at home. I was with them from the time I entered as a freshman to now as I graduate. Not only do they give some of the coolest free events on campus, they also provide a community space to hang out and meet new people. They also have some pretty great leadership development programs (shameless plug).

4.) The Costume Shop

The one place in my building that I'll actually really miss, the costume shop. It allowed me to go and seclude myself from everyone else to sew things. Funny enough, I made some of my favorite memories in that tiny room.

5.) Dunkin' Donuts

I only got one semester with this lovely establishment, but I'm glad that future generations of Eagles can enjoy this coffee shop, because I certainly remember a time when I had to drive off campus to get it.

6.) Tapingo

Speaking of Dunkin', there's nothing like ordering coffee from an app on your phone, walking in, and it being ready. Same thing goes for when you're stuck in the Arts Complex in rehearsal and they can deliver you food. Tapingo is truly the real MVP.

7.) The Library Lawn

Where else are you going to see people in hammocks or people practicing Parkour?

8.) Farmer's Market

It only came a few times in the semester, but it was the cutest thing ever.

9.) Free Stuff

T-Shirts, food, phone wallet clip ons, you name it, it was probably thrown at you at some point on campus. Not to mention if you participated in seminars or workshops, you would get free stuff from that too. It's like a college campus right to get free stuff.

10.) Campus Itself

FGCU has one of the prettiest and eco-friendly campuses in Florida. It's a truly unique campus and I'm going to miss walking around it on a daily basis.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
