1. For always loving me, even when I disappoint them.
One of the worst feelings is when you fail to reach your parents expectations. But it feels even better to know that there is nothing you can do to keep them from loving you.
2. For being proud of me no matter the tiny accomplishment.
Yes that 10th place ribbon from the spelling bee is framed and hanging in our house.
3. For making the extra effort to make my childhood so memorable.
From buying all the Disney movies, to taking the family to the amusement park, or to road tripping and traveling all around just to make sure I see as many cool things in the world as possible.
4. For always putting my needs first.
From paying for my braces and school books before they buy anything for themselves to letting me pick the restaurant for dinner.
5. For taking so many pictures and videos.
The amount of photo albums stacked on bookshelves could fill an entire closet, but there is something about being able to see yourself and the crazy things you did that you can’t remember.
6. For making the holidays all about family.
From Christmas to the Fourth of July, holidays are some of the most traditional and sentimental times of the year. Cooking, cleaning, and buying the presents was much harder than they made it look when we were younger. Getting a new Dollhouse or a new racecar didn’t hurt.
7. For being my support system.
The decisions made in the young adult years can be difficult, but it is a relief to be able to have someone who will always catch you when you fall.
8. For being okay with me leaving home.
I hear empty nesting is a difficult experience for parents, but as my mom always says, “As long as you are having amazing experiences, so am I.”
9. For giving the best hugs.
I never know what I am missing in life until I get a big bear hug from the parents.
10. For existing.
My parents have shaped me, continue to shape me, and are who inspire me. I truly owe everything to them.
