Anyone that is familiar with Asbury Park knows that is it a very unique place. I began working there this summer and noticed a lot of different things on a daily basis. It used to be sort of run down but it is making a comeback and has definitely been a hot spot this summer. If you are planning to visit or have already visited these are some things that you will undoubtedly see on the Asbury Park Boardwalk.

1. Convention Hall

Convention Hall is a historic NJ landmark that was built in 1928. It is occupied by vendors and restaurants today, and the hall itself still hosts events throughout the year.

2. Rum Buckets

Rum Buckets are a summer favorite in AP. People are always going crazy for them and can't wait to drink a cool rum bucket with their feet in the sand.

3. Boardwalk Cops

You will always see two cops patrolling the boardwalk in Asbury to keep everyone safe. Normally you'll see them every couple hundred feet, even in mini patrol cars.

4. Tourists

The Asbury and The Berkely Oceanfront Hotel are two of the main hotels in Asbury Park that attract tourists all times of the year. People come from different states and even countries to check out AP.

5. Men in Tiny Speedos

If you come to the beach or boardwalk, you are guaranteed to see multiple men strutting their stuff in speedos within the first 5 minutes of being there.

6. Live Music

Live music is going on almost, if not every night of the week in Asbury. During the summer, The Stone Pony has a series of outdoor concerts on their summer stage that is very popular for NJ natives. There are a lot of free concerts and summer events involving music as well.

7. Dogs

Even though dogs are not allowed on the boardwalk or beach, people still bring their furry pets to AP. Whether its to Yappy Hour or to grab a bite to eat at a restaurant in Convention Hall, you will see many different dogs (especially dogs in strollers).

8. Pride

Gay Pride is visible all throughout Asbury Park! It is filled with rainbow flags and lots of diversity.

9. Murals

The murals on the boardwalk are always so creative and beautiful. They are a popular background for photos and you've probably seen them in countless Instagram posts.

10. Tattoos

I am always seeing really cool and different tattoos on people in Asbury. AP is home to the Visionary Arts Tattoo Festival where artists come from all over NJ to show their work and give tattoos for the weekend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
