Like it or hate it, the school year has to come to an end. Most are back home enjoying the free time away from class and this means going back to quality home cooked meals.
For the campus with the #1 dining in the country, Virginia Tech students must face the nearly 3 month deprivation of not having the foods they love.
1. No lines.
This one is actually a big perk. Lines are inevitable but sometimes at Tech they are a plain nuisance when you have to be somewhere quick. And when you want Qdoba, waiting is perhaps the worst possible thing of all.
2. "Do you take Hokie P'?
There's nothing more depressing knowing you have to use real money to pay for any food outside home. Let alone remembering that you can't use your Hokie Passport anywhere besides Tech, just to avoid those awkward encounters.
3. Somehow store bought steaks can't compare to West End.
London Broil and J.P. Chops, I write this with love.
4. Cooking for yourself is not easy.
It's easier said than done. The ingredients cost money and the recipes take time. Most likely they won't end up looking like the delicacies at Hibachi.
5. No late night DX or Benny's.
After a party or fun night downtown, nothing will come between you and that pizza. Unfortunately, this is not so easy when you are home. Drunk Benny's with your friends make for the best memories.
6. Kraft Mac & Cheese and Owen's Mac & Cheese are not the same.
Hey don't get me wrong. When it comes to mac and cheese, I ain't go no type. But something about Owens holds a special place in my heart.
7. D2 Brunch owns your soul.
Can anything beat hungover D2 pancakes? The answer is no.
8. No Brueggers.
So utterly heartbreaking. Bagels are a way of life and nothing is harder than having it ripped away for the summer.
9. Your friends can't serve the food for you with their love.
We appreciate all our hard-working student dining staff. While it may not always be fun for them, it's nice to see them brighten up when they serve you.
10. You start to think and/or dream about reuniting with Tech food.
Patience and perseverance are the two most important things for a Tech student to keep in mind. Everyone's favorite foods will be waiting in all their glory when we're back, even the ones that are taken for granted.
