10 Things Artist Will Understand
  1. It’s rare to like your own work. I struggle with appreciating my own artwork most of the time. I get frustrated with myself time and time again, because the finished product turns out different than how I pictured it. I am my biggest critic.
  2. You get asked to draw people a lot. I took a point in my art career to focus only on faces because it was a weak spot for me. I love drawing others, but sometimes I get overwhelmed with the requests -- I feel like I have to draw everyone who asks. I do enjoy drawing others and find it relaxing, but it's not relaxing when people become demanding and overwhelm me.
  3. You enjoy drawing, but hate it at the same time. I love drawing. It is one of my biggest passions, but sometimes it is more frustrating and stress filled than it should be. There have been days that turn out poorly and I fill out my sketchbook with drawings and other days I just can’t put anything down. It’s a love hate relationship.
  4. You have many ideas, but not the skills to follow through. I know I’m not the greatest artist out there. I can always learn something new, and there is always room for improvement. The frustrating thing, is when you have the greatest idea, but when you look at the finished product it isn’t what you wanted it to be.
  5. You have way too many art supplies. I have a box full of special art colored pencils that are very valuable. I spent a lot of money collecting art supplies, to try new ones, experiment, and use tools I know and love. It can be very frustrating when you want a certain art supply but it is just too expensive.
  6. Art class is not as fun as doing your own thing outside of school. I love art classes, because I get to learn new techniques and methods. On the flip side I don’t care for when the teacher hovers over your shoulder as you draw. Also I like the freedom of being able to draw whatever I want, without any restrictions. It is super nice to take my art outside and listen to music and just be in the zone.
  7. Wanting to become an artist when you grow up. To be honest I’ve thought about continuing my art as a career path, but I’ve been stopped by the “starving artist” factor. I also would not want to produce pieces on demand; I’m more of a go with the flow kind of artist. I like freedom and being able to do my own thing.
  8. Your definition of “doodles” aren’t the same as others. I mean this in the least cocky way possible -- other people will look at your work and think it’s a masterpiece, but to you it’s "just a doodle."
  9. Starting drawings in school is better. For some darn reason I always am able to start drawings better in school than outside of school. It’s a bad habit, but in high school I would take my sketchbook with me and pull it out in certain classes that I could. Nonetheless, it is nice to go home once I have a rough outline of my drawing and actually sit down to complete it.
  10. Believing everyone can draw. I always tell others that they can draw, and I always get the same response. “No, I have no artistic ability”, which is false. Everyone can draw, it’s just the skill that differs. Everyone can improve, I try to improve. I definitely have more to learn.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
