1. You throw each other under the bus by mentioning certain things in front of mom.

Let's be real, if mom ever gave you chores to finish before she got home not everything would get done. Then you would bribe each other not to tell (either actually bribing or a tell and I'll pound you kind of bribing). What fun would that kind of leverage be if you didn't make each other sweat a little?

2. From an early age, they try to make you love the same things they love.

My brother always played basketball, so needless to say I ended up playing a few years myself. I was TERRIBLE. But, because of my brother I had a beautiful shot... that is if I ever got the ball... (I also quit before high school if that tells you anything).

3. When they had to drive you anywhere they hated it.

First, my brother got his license so he wouldn't have to ride the bus with his kid sister. Then he proceeded to think of any reason he could not to drive me. Ah, good times.

4. Mom made you tag along with them and their friends.

This wasn't super often for me, but when it was hanging out with your older brother's friends can be just as painful for you as for them.

5. They can pick on you, but literally no one else can.

No explanation needed.

6. They were always jealous of the "little sibling" card.

Ever had a moment where you were left home alone and you did something wrong? Then mom came home and yelled at your older brother for letting you/encouraging you to do it? And you got away without anything but a "don't do that again"? Little Sibling Card at work.

7. You know the exact thing to say to infuriate them.

Much like how only they can pick on you, you both know the exact things to say to make each other mad beyond belief. This is saved for special occasions.

8. Calling shotgun was a strongly enforced rule.

No one ever wants to sit in the back seat. And while your older brother may think this privilege is for him only, the shotgun rule can never be disputed.

9. They got nicer as you both grew up.

Fun fact, older brothers can actually be kind of cool sometimes.

10. Most importantly, food is love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
