10 Things I am Tired of Hearing about my Septum Piercing
Honestly WTF

About two years ago, I got my septum maybe 2 or 3 days after I graduated high school. If my school didn’t have a rule against facial piercings, I probably would have gotten it done much earlier than that. I absolutely love my septum piercing and I feel like it has become a major part of who I am. However, because of my septum piercing, I have had a lot of people telling me and asking me many things that can be pretty ignorant or even rude. Quite frankly, many of these things I am very tired of hearing. Here are the things I am tired of hearing about my septum piercing.

1. “You have such a pretty face! Why did you do that to yourself?”

Isn’t this such a backhanded compliment? I actually think my face looks great with my septum piercing and so do a lot of other people. Also, it’s my face and I can do what I want with it.

2. “Did that hurt?”

I am not entirely too bothered by this question. It is actually quite innocent and mostly out of curiosity, so it is tolerable. However, it does get pretty annoying after hearing it so many times. One, it did not really hurt. It was just a pinch and it made my eyes water, but that’s about it. What hurt more was the healing process. Two, the amount of pain you might feel when getting this piercing also depends on how you tolerate pain, so asking me how much it hurt might not necessarily help you out too much. And three, a lot of people ask this thinking that the cartilage in your nose is what gets pierced, but that’s not what gets pierced at all. What gets pierced is the skin in between your cartilage, so trust me, it’s not as bad as you think it is.

3. “Ladies, septum piercings are not cute. Please stop.”

How about you please stop telling girls what is cute and what is not cute? I honestly don’t care if you think septum piercings are cute or not. I like it and I am happy with it, so that is all that matters.

4. “Jesus wouldn’t approve of that.”

or "You're going to hell for that."

Unlike you, Jesus would forgive me for my sins. Also, don’t be so quick to assume people’s religion. I could have been an atheist and you wouldn't even know it. Stop shoving your religion down my throat too. Your beliefs can be different than mine.

5. "How are you going to get a job with that?”

Well, my septum piercing is already healed, so I can pretty much take it out and put it back in whenever I want to or have to. If I have a job interview or if I am working at a place that does not allow it, I can simply just take it out. I can even flip it into my nose if I have to as well. There are also many work places that don’t mind piercings at all.

6. "She looks cute, but the septum piercing ruined it.”

If my septum piercing bothers you that much, I wouldn’t even give you a chance anyway.

7. "You must be a liberal because you have a septum piercing.”

I am pretty sure there are even conservatives out there that have septum piercings as well. Septum piercings aren’t exclusive to just liberals. Also, I am not even that much of a liberal.

8. "Everyone has a septum piercing now.”

Everyone breathes air too, but you don’t see people complaining about that. For all you know, I could have had this piercing years before it became popular. I didn’t, but I still wanted it years before I could even get it, so I don’t really care if everyone has it now. I am just happy I finally got it done.

9. "You’ll probably regret it later.”

Here is the thing about septum piercings, the actual hole where the jewelry goes in is in a location where nobody can even really see. If I regret it later on, I can just take it out and never wear it again. Nobody would even know.

10. "You look like a bull.”

And you sound like a negative individual who has nothing better to do than criticize my piercing.

After reading this article, I hope you realize how annoying it can be for people with septum piercings, or piercings in general, to hear this on a regular basis. It’s okay to ask questions, but please don’t be so rude about it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
