Throughout my experience of singing in a choir, I have always been an alto, the lowest voice type for women. We love our voice type because it makes unique for being a female who can sing low. Our voice type is a bit challenging because we sing the harmony most of the time, but it is also easy when we sing the same same note several times in a row. Let's just say being an alto is like a roller coaster ride: we have our ups and downs.
1. The feeling of excitement we feel when we get to sing the melody
And then we end up singing the harmony by accident because that's what we're used to singing.
2. Some songs make us sound like robots.
In other words, some songs have us singing the same note over and over again in the same pitch.
3. Every once in a while, we get to be a part-time tenor.
One of the perks of having a low singing voice is being able to sing through a man's point-of-view!
4. That feeling of jealousy we get when we hear these three words: "Good job, sopranos".
Famous last words....
5. We get the last words as the sopranos are singing an extremely high note at the end of a song.
This is pretty self-explanatory.
6. That moment when we get cross-eyed when we sing higher than the sopranos.
*says in minion voice* Whaaaaat?
7. That awkward moment when we go to hit a high note and no sound comes out or we sound like a cat being stepped on.
"Oh no you don't!" -our vocal cords
8. Random interval jumps
"Oh, I love big gaps between notes!" -said no alto ever.
9. When we get a chance to show off our super low notes, they are usually drowned out by a piano chord.
So basically, our mouths are open, but it looks like no sound is coming out.
10. At the end of the day, we realize that we a unique voice type.
Embrace your low voice, my fellow alto ladies!
