1. Follow Your Heart.
Sometimes things get lost in translation. One thing and one person that you can always count on is yourself. No matter what you do, you always have the chance to choose. As cheesy as “follow your heart” sounds, it normally leads you in the right direction. Multiple movies have that quote in it. Maybe it’s because it is just a cliché thing to say in every single love story, or maybe it’s so true that every movie director just wants to get the word out to their audience. If you listen to your heart and no one else, then you’re staying true to yourself.
2. Gut Feelings Are Normally Right.
A gut feeling is not something to ignore. I remember watching NCIS when I was younger and Gibb’s gut was his reliable reaction to every crime that had to be solved. He was hardly ever wrong. Everyone has this gut feeling; the one that says “you’d have more fun if you went here instead of here”, or “you’ll regret doing that in a couple of minutes”. It’s basically your conscious telling you how you really feel about the situation. If you go with your gut you’ll be trusting your own instincts.
3. If They Don’t Help You, They’re Hurting You.
You meet people throughout your life that will change you, in one way or another. Sometimes it’s for the best and others for the worst. Don’t stay friends with someone just because that’s how it’s always been. It’s okay to move on. It’s okay to change. However, sometimes you meet people that will provide you with a lifetime of memories. Those people are the ones you want to hold on to. They will lift you up when others are bringing you down and they will support you when you need it the most. Fight hard for those people, because they are your forever friends.
4. Stop Caring What Anyone Else Thinks; Your Opinion Of Yourself Is What Will Get You Through The Day.
The way you see yourself is what matters the most. You have to believe in yourself when no one else does, because if you don’t then you’ll be left letting yourself down. As long as you keep your perspective of yourself positive, your life and your surroundings will reflect that.
5. Sometimes Things Just Don’t Work Out.
You can’t control everything. Sometimes you have to take a step back and realize that there’s nothing you can do to change what’s meant to happen. What’s meant to be will be. Always.
6. Give Yourself A Break.
You can’t do everything right. Therefore, if something goes wrong and you put yourself down for it then it’s not doing anything other than hurting you. Let go of what’s holding you down and hold on to everything that lifts you up. Look at things as a glass half full situation and your outcomes will seem to be much more optimistic.
7. Love Everyone For As Long As You Can.
Things happen every day. People get hurt, leave, or other things take them away from your life. DO NOT go to sleep angry. DO NOT leave after a fight. Always forgive and continue to love. Even if there is nothing going on, if things are absolutely perfect, still tell everyone you love that you do love them. Tell them than you don’t know where you’d be without them, because you don’t know what the next day may bring.
8. Understand That Sometimes Things And People Change. You Can’t Control It.
Things change over time, whether it’s your hair color or your taste in music. Some things you just can’t control. Don’t force what you can’t help. Let those you care about do what they need to do to be happy, and if it is not something that you prefer, distance yourself. Allow yourself to change and grow for the better and never let anyone or anything make you into being someone you’re not.
9. Some People Are Here To Stay And Others Are Here Only For A Short Time. Accept Both Outcomes.
There’s a saying that says that some people come in your life as a blessing, and others as lessons. Let those who stay and stick with you be your blessing as those who leave be you lesson. You can choose who taught you lessons, good or bad, but no matter what every person who enters your life will impact you somehow. Allow each person to teach you whatever is it that they are placed in your life for. Everything happens for a reason, you must accept that.
10. Thank Those Who Make Your Life A Better Place.
Don’t take the people who provide love and laughter in your life for granted. Thank them for the midnight laughs and scary movie nights. Thank them for being only a text away when you need them the most. Thank them for all of these things, but most of all thank them for simply being themselves. They are who they are and they make your life a better, happier, and more fun life because of it. Be thankful for being blessed.
Overall, I’ve learned a lot as I’ve gotten older. People change, you change, and everything changes. The best thing to do is accept it. Live, laugh, and love. That’s the best three word advice I can give anyone. Keep your head up, fight for what you believe in, live a little, laugh a lot, and love always.
