10 Symptoms Of Spring Fever

Even though it’s still officially considered “winter,” this weather that we’ve been having is such a spring teaser. Last week it reached a high of almost 70 degrees which is incredible considering February should be one of the coldest, if not the coldest month of the year….ironic isn’t it. I don’t think it’s fair because I am a Spring and Summer lover, without a doubt. I would take sunshine over snow any day of the week. With this in mind, here are 10 symptoms of spring fever. Here’s to hoping that this article will bring warmer weather for us in the near future!

1. Getting any chance you can to spend some time outside: You could be walking, running around your campus or just doing homework, but you can bet that you’re doing it outside. You can’t get enough of the warmth (if only the sun index was higher so you could actually try and get a tan).

2. Having the tendency to maybe skip a class (or two am I right..?): It’s so hard to focus sometimes when it’s so nice out. Any professor that sees this will either laugh and agree or just hate me in general. My regards go to Professor Richardson and last Friday’s class that I missed… I’m truly sorry but I am extremely happy that I got to spend the time outside.

3. Saying “is it Summer yet” at least three times a day: Nice weather reminds me of one thing and one thing only, SUMMER TIME. Being outside, closing your eyes and letting the warmth of the sun hit your scary pale legs; I swear there is nothing better. I can’t wait for the beach weather that is soon to come in a few months!

4. You find yourself more happy: I swear that everyone has their own symptoms and severity of seasonal depression. When it’s cold and snowy, everyone seems so depressed and mad at the world; however, when it’s warm and sunny, people are more talkative and happy. I love when people are so positive, it makes everything so much better.

5. You find yourself wanting to be more active/wanting to do more active things: Warm weather makes for great runs around your campus or for great hikes at a local mountain. All in all, the sun makes you want to be active. Dear God, thank you for granting me with energy that I can never seem to find in the dead of winter.

6. It’s beach body season: Which means….absolutely nothing!!!! You work out the same amount and you still eat the same amount of food (healthy and unhealthy). Here’s to all the people out there that are extremely comfortable with their body image at the moment and if you aren’t, then here’s to warm wishes to support your mental/physical development. Remember, do things to make you happy.

7. You suddenly love the environment and everything related to it: *walking to class and sees a flower starting to bloom* “WOW HOW AMAZING IS THAT FLOWER?” Warmer weather just makes you appreciate everything that much better, it’s definitely a proven fact.

8. Creating a bucket list for fun activities: Warmer weather makes you move motivated to plan fun things ahead of time! So this can mean planning a vacation, a trip to see a Red Sox game or a day trip to Cape Cod. All of which will be extremely fun to do by yourself or with a family or friend. Here’s to all the great memories that will accompany this warm weather.

9. Planning a variety of Spring shopping trips: Recognizing that you have no spring wardrobe what so ever and that it’s an extremely huge inconvenience (shout out to my friend’s and our community closet because I literally live for that on the weekends).

10. You are beyond happy if the weather is warmer than 45: When I say happy, I am overjoyed and probably scream at the top of your lungs. This means no bean boots, no wool socks and no triple layer jackets.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
