During the holiday season you see so many people coming and going to your store that you don't even pay attention to who is who anymore. People come through buying gifts, food, wrapping paper, etc. There are so many struggles of being a cashier in general but when it comes to the holidays it gets worse. The struggles include...
1. Grinches and Grouches.
Everyone knows these people, the people who shop till they drop for Christmas items but do nothing but complain bout going to the store, picking out gifts, spending time with family, pretty much anything they could come up with to hate the holiday season.
2. The storytellers.
These people can end up being super nice, and funny, or they can end up being downers, and the talkers. They come through your line and decide to tell you what there entire day consisted of and then decide to tell you what each child wanted for Christmas, whose gift is whose, how they want it bagged, and keep going on and on. They end up holding the line up and making everyone else mad.
3. Sales, Sales, Sales.
Christmas sales can be really good or really bad. The BOGO, or the "buy this and this an get this amount off," or "I thought that was on sale." Read the sign.
4. "Can you check the back for more?"
No I can't. We can't. You can't. Most of the time the items that are on the shelf is all that we have. If you don't see it on the shelf then we most likely do not have it. Quit asking.
5. "That's supposed to be 50% off!"
Oh is it? Or are you lying? Trying to pull a fast one on me? And then once you call the manager over they decide that they'll just take the regular price. Why you lying?
6. No social life.
Being a cashier during the holidays most likely means you will work 3 out of the 5 weekdays and both weekend days. Plus the actual holidays. You have no time for anything but work.
7. "I hate to be the customer that is here when you guys close."
Then why are you here with a cart full of stuff 5 minutes before we close? You KNOW when we close.
8. "I left my wallet in the car, I'll be back."
30 minutes later and they still haven't shown back up
9. Trying to pursue the customer to get one of your store cards.
Honestly if the customer doesn't want one then I'm not going to waste my time explaining the details. Then there's the customers who want a brochure and full lecture on what the card is and what it does and then doesn't even want one.
10. "I heard if it doesn't scan then it is free."
Hahahaha that's so funny.
