10 Steps On Your Road To Self-Care

Self-care is more than splurging on items or bubble baths. Self-care starts with you. Here are 10 steps you can follow to help you live your best life.

1. Recognize the powerful energy sources in your life

Remove the toxic ones ASAP. You will help yourself in the end and that's what self-care is all about. Leave the energy suckers behind. These are the people who you feel exhausted and irritable after you spend time with them. Begin to surround yourself with people that make you feel loved and fill you with light. Surround yourself with people who make you hungry for life.

2. Create a list

Gather that old box of construction paper, sharpies, scissors, glitter glue, etc. Add one thing you love about yourself to the list. Whether it be a personality trait or physical feature. Add one thing to your super decked out self-love list for as many days as you need. You will begin to see how resilient you are.

3. Find your thing

We all have that one thing we just lose ourselves in. Time rockets by. Allow yourself an hour a day to do whatever that passion of yours is. This will fill you with good energy and open more doors for your passion to be expressed.

4. Eat healthy and Exercise

When we fill our bodies with nutrients we gain more energy to get through the day. eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and foods rich in protein. Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day to give you that boost of endorphins your doctor is always nagging you about!

5. Treat yo self

Treat yourself like you treat your best friend. Shower yourself in love. Be your own hype queen. Buy yourself that matching sweater too. If your friend canceled because they were sick that's OK, you would be understanding (if you're an understanding friend — LOL!). So when you're feeling off or just need space to yourself so you can laugh at the funny David Dobrik Vlogs that's OK to do that! When your body needs rest give it rest. Our bodies are constantly working to keep our hearts pumping, so respect and honor this loving machine.

6. Clean

Clean out that closet of yours. Pick up the seven clean shirts you tried on this morning off the floor and hang them up. When we have a clean space it allows our mind to create more space for creativity to blossom in that unique brain of ours.

7. Just do it

Stop saying you want to do 'this and that' and just do it. The dance class you have been wanting to sign up for, it's time to go put your name on that list and go on and dance it out. We spend too much time obsessing over the things we want to do but never do them. You have the potential to manifest all of your desires. It is up to you to get up and chase your dreams. Go to that dance class and trip over your feet and then stand right back up and try again.

8. Go outside

Nature has a mysterious way of relaxing your boy and mind. Remember that sunset you saw, how warm it made you feel. Begin to be grateful for the nature and its beautiful canvases. I can promise you after just 10 minutes relaxing outside you will be filled with light and peace. I wrote this article sitting outside and I can tell you the good vibes from outside were a significant contribution.

9. Forgive

Forgive yourself for thinking you did not deserve this self -care from the beginning. Forgive yourself for not tending to your temple. You can start over. That's the beautiful thing about life it forces us to keep standing up every morning the sunrises. We are all struggling, but how we choose to learn and grow from the process is what matters the most. Look at you. you are taking the steps right now to lather yourself in self-care. So leave the past behind and live in this very moment.

10. Just take a deep breath

When we take deep breaths we send love notes to our brain to relax. This is a time for healing growth. ALllow your body to learn and bloom in this process. Understand that there will still be trials throughout your journey, but the universe would never give you anything you couldn't handle. So take a deep breath right now send a love note to your brain. It is your time to blossom.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
