Crafting. Some people love it, some people hate it. But as sorority girls, we all have to do it at some point. Personally, I love crafting. I love getting to see something that I made bring joy to someone else. But let's be real here. It is a lot of work. A LOT. After spending the weekend crafting with one of my sisters, I realized just how much work it can be and all of the crazy stages that are part of the process.
- Realizing you have a reason to craft
- Depending on the person, this can be a moment of panic or excitement. Personally, I get excited at the opportunity to craft for one of my friends. Either way, it always leads to Pinterest.
- Being in awe of the masterpieces on Pinterest
- Let's be real. Most of the crafts you see on Pinterest are totally unrealistic for the average non-art major. But don't get too disheartened. I promise there are always some easy canvases that are perfect for crafting beginners. Trust me. I'm terrible at art.
- Making a list of all the supplies you still need to buy
- Sometimes people forget this step, but it is really important. Otherwise, you end up in Michael's buying all the cute ribbons and beads and other small things that catch your eye but are not necessary for the craft at hand.
- Planning a shopping trip with friends to get supplies
- Craft shopping is just better with friends. Especially when you have some of the same items on your list and realize that you can just share instead of buying two of everything.
- That heart-wrenching moment when you see your checkout total at Michael's
- This is usually what happens to all of you that don't take my advice and make a list. All those little things can add up pretty fast.
- Starting to actually craft
- Be sure to lay something down on the ground and get a good playlist going. You'll most likely be there for a while.
- Getting halfway through and suddenly doubting every stroke of the paintbrush
- Why is this taking so long? Does this paint look weird to you? I knew I should have gone with a lighter color. I'm never going to finish!
- Texting all of your friends for encouragement to keep going
- This is vital. Even for people who love crafting, hours of sitting in one place can be exhausting. Be sure to ask friends for encouragement!
- Finally finishing and getting to see your very own work of art
- That amazing moment when you realize that all of the parts you doubted came together in just the right way. You realize that it is way better than you had hoped, and part of you wishes you could keep it for yourself.
- Giving it to the person and seeing the joy on their face
- The most rewarding part of it all. The reason you were crafting in the first place. Seeing the excitement on their face as you give them your masterpiece is priceless.
