Driving is a huge step into independence for many American teens. Your first drive by yourself is exhilarating, if a tiny bit nerve wracking. Actually driving though, is 1000000x more fun than what it took to get that license:
1. Clicking confirm to schedule your test.
It’s happening! You’ve committed! Freedom, here we come.
2. Trying to finish your hours in time.
Maybe your parents are reluctant or you’re all just too busy, but getting those hours might just be the death of you.
3. Seesawing between “I am literally the best driver ever” and “I’m definitely going to fail.”
And trying to settle on “I just want to pass.”
4. Nervously showing up the day of.
You're twenty minutes from maybe getting that license, and what's running through your mind is "I hope I pass I hope I pass I hope I pass..." Hopefully, all your practice will pay off!
5. Shaking hands with the DMV examiner.
And… this is suddenly very formal. No pressure though!
6. Making a minor mistake and wincing.
Please say they didn’t notice!
7. Or, messing up majorly and knowing you’ve failed.
There’s no way your DMV examiner missed that one. Whoops?
8. Waiting for the verdict.
I really don’t want to have to do that all over again! Just tell me, please!
9. Hopefully, passing!
Yes! Now you can get to practice, school, or work with way less of a struggle.
10. Getting your license in the mail.
Complete with awkward picture. Honestly, I drive safely if only to avoid having to show an officer that headshot. Now I just need to not lose my license!
So congratulations for achieving that classic American milestone! Here’s to worrying about getting a car or getting into college.
