We all need to reminisce sometimes and remember the “good times.” When moments like this come along, it’s time to pull out the happy song repertoire.
I've complied 10 songs that will lift your mood, whether because it is a generally happy song or because it's been ages since you've heard it. Enjoy!
1. "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae
No one remembers this song and every time I sing it or bring it up in conversation, they'll look at me confused. The sad thing is that it is a good song that deserves some recognition as a happy summery song.
"Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down."
2. "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane
This song has been known for a very long time now and people continue to do covers of it. Sadly, the original rarely gets due credit.
"Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside ev'ry darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where brave are free and lovers soar."
3. "Rhythm of Love" by Plain White T’s
The overshadowed song of the popular band Plain White T's. While most of my friends listened to there song "Hey There Delilah," I enjoyed this tune.
"We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you're mine all mine
Play the music low and sway to the rhythm of love."
4. "Free Fallin’" by Tom Petty
One of my favorite songs ever. Most know of it because of John Mayer's cover, but I will say what my dad said when he compared the two: the original is better.
"I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
I'm gonna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for awhile."
5. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
What a relaxing song coming from a very chill man. Even though "Iz" died years ago, his mood and his cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" never fails to put a smile on people's faces.
"Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me."
6. "Classic" by MKTO
While this song is quite recent, I've come to the conclusion that many people overlooked this song in 2014, but it has always made me happy.
"You're over my head
I'm out of my mind
Thinking I was born in the wrong time
One of a kind, living in a world gone plastic
Baby you're so classic"
7. "Dancing in the Moonlight" by Van Morrison
Another one of my favorites that I rarely hear. "Dancing in the Moonlight" sounds like good ol' fun and just makes you want to dance with someone you love.
"Dancing in the moonlight.
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight"
8. "Yellow" by Coldplay
Coldplay's sound has changed over the years (proceeding to be an excellent band), but its classic acoustic love song continues to inspire and make people happy to this day.
"Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow."
9. "Billionaire" by Bruno Mars
One of the very first times we heard Bruno Mars was on his track with Travie McCoy. This song was the hot ring tone for many people back in 2010, I wonder how many still remember it?
"Oh every time I close my eyes
I see my name in shining lights
Yeah, a different city every night oh right
I swear the world better prepare
For when I'm a billionaire"
10. "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus
And finally, the old school angsty teen classic, "Teenage Dirtbag." The triumphant song of a "dirtbag" getting the girl of his dreams in high school. What could make you happier?
"It's prom night and I am lonely
Lo and behold
She's walking over to me
This must be fake
My lip starts to shake
How does she know who I am?
And why does she give a damn about me?"
