It's OK to cry. Whether it's a tough break-up, stress from the mountains of schoolwork piling up on your desk, or that Roy Roger's messed up your order for the third time - it's alright to shed some tears. Trust me. You will feel so much better after you let it all out. Don't be afraid to hide under the blankets and bawl your eyes out, or silently sniffle in the frozen pizza aisle.
But sometimes we just can't do it. Maybe it's pride or, if you're anything like me, you might just be physically incapable of actually crying about things. Sometimes you just need a little help - a little push to help get those tears rollin'. So, here is my list of the best 10 songs to aid you on your journey through misery (and no, bookmarking on this article will not make you pathetic):
1. "Say Something" - A Great Big World, Christina Aguilera
Seriously. Who's cutting the onions?
2. "Bumper Cars" - Alex & Sierra
If their love story alone (look up their X Factor performances!) doesn't make you cry, then this song most definitely will.
3. "The Last Time" - Taylor Swift ft. Gary Lightbody
Personally, I find this to be one of Taylor Swift's most underrated songs, and Gary Lightbody complements her voice in such a way that literally makes me involuntarily start to weep.
4. "Can't Help Falling In Love (Cover)" - Twenty One Pilots
This song is an Elvis Presley staple track, but Twenty One Pilot's lead singer Tyler Joseph's rendition is so unbelievably sweet, and the video only adds to the tear-jerking factor. On the off-chance that I ever get married, this will for sure be the song I will use for my first dance. Call me #basic, but it's just too good not to take advantage of.
5. "Unarmed" - Mariah McManus
If you're a Grey's Anatomy fan (more specifically, the Season 6 finale), then you might have heard this song, but other than that it's pretty under the radar, and most definitely underutilized for those late-night cry sessions. It's dark and downbeat - perfect for setting the mood.
6. "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles Cover)" - Sleeping At Last
Another Grey's Anatomy tune, because, let's be real, half the tears I cry when watching the show are from the background music. Anyway, Sleeping At Last puts a great modern, indie twist on The Proclaimers' Scottish original that's great for humming along to as you scream-cry into your pillow about that boy that would like never walk 500 (or is it 1,000?) miles for you.
7. "Infinity" - One Direction
OK, so I will admit, I am a recently-conformed "Directioner," thanks to my obsessed roommate, but I feel like even non-Directioners could definitely get in their feels while listening to this song.
8. "Photograph" - Ed Sheeran
Again, this is one of the songs where you have to watch the video to get the full effect, but nonetheless, if you don't cry then you literally have no humanity. However, I find it extremely difficult to not cry at any of Ed Sheeran's ballads.
9. "See You Again" - Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth
This song was a given, so don't act like you didn't see it coming. The lyrics are so hauntingly beautiful and the meaning behind them is reason for tears in itself.
10. "Stubborn Love" - The Lumineers
Last, but certainly not least, my personal favorite: "Stubborn Love." I can't even count the amount of times I've listened to this song while I'm crying - but not because it necessarily makes me sad, but it makes me feel better. Enjoy!
