10 Signs You're A Gamma Phi Beta

1. No one else knows what “mode” is, but you and your sisters can recognize it in a heartbeat.

Mode is technically the lighter shade of another color. Gamma Phi’s colors are brown and mode, so basically brown and light brown. On the bright side, it looks so good with pink, the sorority’s unofficial third color.

2. You throw the crescent whenever possible—especially in front of pretty sunsets.

There are always perfect moments to throw what you know and be proud you’re a Gamma Phi.

3. There is a list in your iPhone of quotes to use on Instagram pictures with your sisters.

Phrases such as “I love you to the crescent moon and back,” and “It's pΓΦΒably the best decision a girl can make” have probably appeared somewhere on your social media.

4. You can name your founders in a heartbeat.

Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis, and Mary A. Bingham—and you’ll say it in that order every time.

5. You have thought, numerous times, about planning a road trip to Syracuse with your sisters to see where your sorority started.

There is nothing better than seeing the place where history was made.

6. There are various occasions when recruitment chants get stuck in your head, even when recruitment isn't happening.

Who doesn’t love a little “go, go, go Gamma Gamma / go, go, go Phi Phi / go, go, go Beta Beta / Gamma Phi Beta”?

7. You pride yourself by living up to Gamma Phi’s mission statement and philanthropy.

Being able to inspire the highest type of womanhood, while building strong girls will never fail to make you feel proud of yourself and what your sisterhood has accomplished for others.

8. Most of the time, you can be found on Crescent Corner or the Gamma Phi T-shirt swap page buying new apparel.

And most of the time, your wallet is weeping. But hey, at least you have cute stuff now.

9. The pink carnation is your favorite flower.

Chances are, you have at least one in your room right now. Most girls have a vase full of them—including me.

10. You can’t help but be overjoyed when you see a girl wearing the letters ΓΦΒ on her shirt.

Bonus points if she’s not from your chapter. This creates an instant conversation and bonding over your shared sorority, while you can learn about different colleges and experiences.

There are so many more signs that you’re a Gamma Phi Beta, but some are more prevalent than the rest. Despite that, you’re certain that ΓΦΒ will never leave your heart and you are so glad to have found the sisterhood perfect for you. The sorority founded upon a rock gave you a place to stay and call home. You will forever be grateful for that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
