College, where do I begin? It is the best years of your life, but it also some of the most stressful. Late night studying, lack of food and serious time management problems. Need I say more. All of my fellow college students can attest to everything that is on this list. So you thought high school was stressful, well think again.
1. Sleep? What is sleep?
Since the semester started your schedule hasn't been the same has it? The suggested amount of hours of sleep for a young adult (ages 18-25) is somewhere between 8 and 11. If you are getting that as a college student, the rest of us hate you. With the late night study sessions, socializing or maybe even just watching Netflix, the average college student gets around 6 to 7 hours a night; aka coffee is our new best friend.
2. Netflix And Chill
Ahh yes, the ever so famous "Netflix and chill". We all know what the stigma around this is... but if you are anything like me Netflix is an important time. Whether you like "Orange Is The New Black", "Bobs Burgers", "Breaking Bad", or "F.R.I.E.N.D.S", those hours and hours you spend in the dark with some popcorn are very important! No matter how much we complain about not having enough time in the day, there is always time for one more episode.
3. Eating Healthy
Trying to eat healthy on a college campus is not an easy task! Usually, the options for food are a few fast food places, a convenient store or two, and the campus dining halls. Being short on time, most people resort to the fast food. You can't blame us! It's cheap, quick, and not too bad tasting.
4. This Is Probably Clean...
We can all lie and say we have never worn the same pair jeans two days in a row, but we all know the truth. Sometimes it's getting to the end of the week and we just need something to wear. Listen, I get it, being away from home, having to be a somewhat responsible adult is hard. However, we all have got to do our laundry. No one wants to be around someone that smells like old nasty B/O. (Also, just a quick tip for college students, the little laundry detergent tablets are life savers and very easy to use!)
(Oh, also, a quick story. My first time doing laundry at school I put the detergent tablet and all my dirty clothes in the machine came back a while later to find out I put them in the dryer and not the washing machine... so that tells you something about me.)
5. Loss Of Motivation
Week by week we get knocked down. It's either the exam we have to cram for because our professors didn't feel the need to tell us about it because "it's on the syllabus" or that insane party from Saturday. A lot of us are just chilling in our onesies waiting for Friday afternoon.
6. Money? haha no.
Most of us can't afford to be at the school we attend anyway. So having extra money to blow usually isn't our deal. Free T-Shirt? Free food? You can guarantee most of the student body will be there.
7. BED?
Getting in and out of this contraption is not only the most difficult thing but also the loudest. I'm a pretty tall girl and I still need to get a bit of a running start or use my desk chair to get onto my bed. You all know the struggle of trying to sleep on this.
8. Do I Skip?
Having to skip a class to either study for that class, or work on an important assignment in another course. We have all had to make this choice before, and there is no right answer. If you go to the class, you feel bad for neglecting the other assignment. However, if you don't go to class then you waste one of your absences and miss work in that class it's a lose-lose situation.
9. You Miss Your Dog The Most
Being away from your pet for weeks on end is horrible. They have been your best friend since you were little. Leaving them for college sucks!
10. New Friends
In college, you meet a lot of people with similar interests as you (especially when you're surrounded by people with the same major as you). Being lonely and away from all your hometown friends causes you to create quick bonds!
If you can relate to any of these or if you know a college student who does, please share this with them! Thanks for reading!
