10 Signs You Were A Recruitment Counselor

1. Your Panhellenic love is now through the roof.

You never thought you could seriously get to know and love so many strangers in such a short amount of time, but being on the other side of the crazy recruitment process has taught you to do just that! Some of these strangers will now become your best friends, and your partner, well, she will forever wear a halo above her head for dealing with you all week.

2. You know just about every sorority’s songs on the row, and there are some that you will never forget.

“Everybody wants to be a Chi Omega, everybody wants to be RED HOT!”

3. Although the Pan-hell love in strong, you do, of course, admire those houses who fed you the best and set you up with the comfiest couches during those long sets where you were crammed indoors.

4. It’s safe to say that you know just about all of the house moms (and their dogs) on the row.

And you love each and every one of them the same, even if one happens to make homemade cookies every day for you.

5. You now feel as if you not only have a home within your individual letters, but also with the girls who chose to give up their letters in the most selfless way possible, and are part of the Panhellenic community.

6. You have learned to ignore all stereotypes.

You get to know someone for who they truly are, regardless of the letters they wear.

7. Your back aches for a solid 10 days (and probably long after) just because you carried around a life supply of anything and everything your new members MIGHT need.

...Even though half of the items go unused, and all they really want are the mints. It’s like you’re in the 4th grade again, trying to shove everything you can possibly think of into a backpack, and it sticks out like a turtle shell while you walk around campus in the summer heat.

8. You are suddenly unable to fight emotions or hold back tears.

Something about this process just makes you into an emotional mess, even though you have to keep together and be reassuring yet stern for your new members. Take bid day, for example; you are just as eager as the potential new members to see what houses they have gotten, and you cry with them in happiness when they receive a letter from their new home.

9. You are absolutely clueless about the many beautiful, smiling faces you see on bid day.

The women do not look familiar to you, and odds are, you know nothing about the new members unless they were in your recruitment counselor group. If that is the case, you are so incredibly lucky to know them better than anyone else.

10. Then again, you have never appreciated wearing your letters more.

After however many long days spent dissociated from your sisters, when the time finally comes to be reunited, it is you who feels like a new member being welcomed into your sorority’s home and loved again by all of the current members.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
