In this day and age, social media has had a huge impact on how we interact with others. Many young people know each other only through the social media accounts they follow and friend. Instagram in particular makes it really easy to find out all you need about a person from their very precisely written bios or the pictures of the user's squad and their many adventures. Here are some ways to check if you may be spending too much time on Instagram.
1. You ask new friends for their Instagram handles.
Upon meeting someone new, you usually tend to ask them for their Instagram handle opposed to asking them for their phone number.
2. You call the app "Insta" instead of Instagram (as if it's that much shorter).
Trying to make the app sound even more hipster you try to shorten it to make it seem cooler and seem like it's a chic way to pronounce the app.
3. You've learned a new language called "filters."
You've spent so much time attempting to pick the perfect filter that now you've practically memorized the names of all of them and find yourself asking your friends if you should pick X pro or Valencia.
4. You've mastered the art of verbally using hashtags in real life.
You easily catch yourself saying things like "#true" when someone says something you agree with, or you indicate to someone that you are angry by saying "#bye" and walk away.
5. You aren't even aware of who half your followers are.
You followed that one girl who takes the cool fitness pictures that you found on someone's account but when someone asks who that is you don't have a better answer besides "this fitness lady."
6. Someone has told you that you spend too much time on Instagram.
I'm sure an angry friend has seen you post that flawless selfie or picture of your dog with just the right filter on Instagram, but you didn't have time to text them back and they may have called you out on it.
7. You go on Instagram for just a minute but end up on it for hours.
You just went to go look at those prom pictures your friends posted, but you soon end up looking through your best friend's neighbor's step cousin's cat's Instagram account.
8. You debate whether a picture is Instagram-worthy.
On more than one occasion you have questioned whether your picture should even be good enough to post onto the app and you've asked friends which pictures would be the best for Instagram.
9. You're practically shocked when someone doesn't have an Instagram.
When someone tells you they don't have an account, you practically believe they must be living under a rock.
10. You have the perfect caption for every photo you take.
You just know exactly what to caption all your pictures and people may have even mentioned that you're awesome when it comes to writing captions.
Let's face it: Instagram can suck anyone in, making them believe they are the next Instagram model or professional photographer. But, we wouldn't want to miss out on the opportunity to post all our adventures and Kodak moments for all our friends and family to see!
