10 Signs You Grew Up In North Carolina

North Carolina is possibly one of the greatest states to live in, you have the option to go to the beautiful mountains or to the salty coast and then you have what is in between. However, there are some things that you can only relate to if you grew up in North Carolina. Here are a few.

1. You're either are a fan of Duke, Carolina, or NC State

Nothing quite compares to the rivalry between these three schools, even if you did not go there, your feelings for your team are quite strong. (Go Tarheels)

2. You ask for sweet tea or Cheerwine up north

All I have to say is do not ask or you will be quite disappointed. You will either get "Cheerwine..what is that?" or "we have sugar that you can put in your tea". Both are disappointing answers.

3. Y'all and Y'all All is perfect grammar

If you're referring to a small group you say y'all as in you all, but if you want to speak to everyone you say "y'all all" because you know, y'all just isn't enough.

4. You're not surprised when you have a snow day with no snow

One of the greatest things about living here, we get almost no snow and school is cancelled. Wohoo! No school but not trapped inside the house.

5. 1 a.m. Cookout runs are normal

Chicken tender tray, with seasoned fries, hushpuppies and a Huge Cheerwine. $4.75. (Don't forget the Honey Mustard.)

6. Going to Tanglewood at Christmas time is a tradition.

Nothing quite puts you into the holiday cheer until you have visited Tanglewood's light show and growing up in North Carolina you have probably been more times than you can keep count, but you always get excited to go again.

7. You know the proper way to pronounce Appalachian

It's App-a-latch-un not App-a-lay-shun. Get it together people.

8.You don't let anyone from Ohio try to argue that they were first in flight.

No, just no.

9. You refer to fireflies as lightning bugs

Summer nights out with a mason jar catching "lightnin' bugs" were the best times as a kid.

10. Barbecue is a noun. Not a verb.

No, we are not going to barbecue we are going to eat some barbecue.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
