Most of the time people go away for college. However, for whatever reason there's always people who stay in their hometown for college. Growing up in a small town is one thing, but attending college in that same town is, well, practically the same too.
1. You know everyone already (and you quickly learn who new people to town are).
Everybody dies famous in a small town. Literally, everyone is basically a celebrity.
2. You've already experienced everything your town has to offer.
While your classmates discover the new local restaurants or hidden hiking places, you don't get the same thrill since you've been going there your whole life.
3. You get an apartment not even five minutes from your childhood home.
How else are you going to gain independence?
4. You see the duel credit kids on campus that were in junior high the year you graduated.
Running into large groups of high school kids that you know taking a campus tour is not uncommon either.
5. The college football stadium is the same one your high school football team uses.
Going to football games is both exciting and nostalgic.
6. You can go visit family members in between or after class.
You don't have to worry about missing family events because they all live nearby.
7. You eat at the same restaurant you went to every day in high school no matter how much more you like it than all of your friends.
And you will run into at least five classmates, one relative, two professors, the Dean of Students and your elementary school teacher each time too.
8. You're everyone's go-to for directions.
After all, you do know this town literally like the back of your hand.
9. You rarely spend weekends at home.
Whether you go with a significant other or a friend, you're more than willing to jump at any opportunity to see the "outside world."
10. You feel lost when everyone goes home during breaks.
"When are you leaving to go home for Christmas br- .... Oh, nevermind."
Going to college in the small town you grew up in definitely has its perks and downfalls. You never get homesick, but it's going to be pretty different once you move away. Some people love it, some people hate it, but either way, you'll still miss it.
