10 Signs That You Are An English Major
She Knows

Like all other majors out there, an English major has a lot of things that set them apart from the rest. So here are 10 sure signs that you are an English major.

1. Improper grammar drives you insane.

You never fail to pick apart any and all incorrect grammar, even if it is only inside of your head. But this goes both ways. If you make one mistake, your friends will definitely call you out on it.

2. Everyone expects you to sit around and read.

Trust me I do love to read. But there are other things that I do with my time. Like writing.

3. You are the official proof reader of your friend group.

When midterms and finals roll around, you have so many emails in your inbox of your friends' papers that need correcting. And you don't hold back on the critique.

4. You dread those few math and science classes that you have to take.

Oh those awful gen eds. Math and science are not your thing and you put off taking them until the last possible second.

5. The idea of a literature class excites you.

Diving into literature is something you actually enjoy. So a whole class and basically a whole major dedicated to reading sounds so great.

6. You would rather write a paper than take a test.

You know that writing is your strong suit, so a paper over a test is something you will take any day. Because with the paper, you know that you can make it good.

7. You are forever asked what you are going to do with this major.

For me personally, I want to teach. But a lot of other people are misunderstood when they major in English. It is a broad major that could equip you for many different careers.

8. Writing people notes is your go-to act of kindness.

Some people give gifts and others say a lot. But for you, notes are big. You love writing down how you feel about someone and having them read it. But not until after you leave of course. On the flip side, you love receiving notes as well.

9. You probably write for your school's Odyssey community.

Odyssey is on the rise, and English majors on every college campus are itching to write for us. So there is a good chance you are like me and writing articles every week. But you love it.

10. You wouldn't want to study anything else.

Everything else just pales in comparison to studying the beautiful language that is English.

So there you have it. English majors are awesome and any other opinion is irrelevant.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
