It's rare that sunshine hits Canton, NY. We freeze all winter with that glimmer of hope that the last few weeks of the semester will be at least over 40 degrees (which is basically scorching hot compared to the -35 degrees we are used to). When spring has officially "sprung" there are quite a few changes on campus, most defiantly for the better.
1. Bean boots are traded for Rainbows and Birkenstocks
All winter we lace up the bean boots to treck through the snow and layers of ice. Once that ice melts, break down the Rainbows and Birks because it is officially flip flop season (even if it is only 45).
2. Sundresses... everywhere.
You've gotta have something to wear those flip flops with, right? One that first day of spring at least 80% of the females on campus have busted out their favorite sundress, most of which were bought at Luna or Isle of You.
3. The Quad exists again
During the winter months, the quad is nothing more than boot paths where people cut across to get to class or the Ticker. Once that dries up, the quad is filled with people tanning, doing homework, playing catch, or cracking a cold one.
4. Fire Drills
In the past week, almost everyone has probably had a fire drill in their class or dorm. Once that weather breaks you can almost guarantee that you will be part of one. But honestly, who's complaining about a 5-minute break during your 8:50 class.
5. Adirondack chairs
The chairs are taken out of storage and placed all around campus. Before they are even placed on the ground, we are already sitting in them (and putting them on our SnapStory).
6. Tan faces are finally a thing again
After living in the tundra for a few months tanned skin doesn't exactly exist anymore. However, after soaking up every last ounce of sun on the first nice weekend, which is usually Springfest, we all have some color again, and many more smiles.
7. The River is all over Instagram
It's almost like clockwork that when the sun comes out everyone heads to the river. Either to canoe, hang out with friends, take a dip, or go for an adventure, you can always count on a trip here every spring.
8. People actually attend sporting events again
When it's 30 degrees and you're begging your friends to come to your game, it's most likely going to turn into a no (understandably). However, when that Saturday afternoon turns to 65, you can count on your cheering section to be there.
9. It's more acceptable to eat Stewarts... three times a week
Whether it's loopty loop, fireworks, or mint chip, it all tastes so good when it comes from the local Stewarts. Even though you still make the trip in the winter, it's much sweeter when you can eat it outside without getting frostbite.
10. You have more homework than you did all semester
.... and you can barely even enjoy the sunshine.
