Don’t get me wrong, people are great, but there’s something about the unconditional love a dog offers that qualifies them to be our best friends. They don’t laugh when you spill water on yourself or judge you for spending your night with a large pizza and stack of terrible movies. People friends won’t sit on your feet to warm your toes or make you laugh till cry because of the peanut butter stuck to the top of their nose. It might be more socially acceptable to enjoy a lunch out with friends, but it’s not nearly as fun as getting a “pup cup” from Starbucks and spending the afternoon with a latte and your pal. My dog is my best friend and here are 10 signs that yours might be too.
1. You have the same taste in music.
It doesn’t matter what radio station you’re listening too, Fido is always down for whatever. If you’re in the car, just roll down the window and blare that Taylor Swift, because Fido wont judge.
2. They motivate you.
Watching all the "Harry Potter" movies in one sitting might be your goal, but trust me when I tell you that it is not your dogs. As your best friend, it’s their job to get you out of the house. While taking them on that morning walk might be annoying, it will prepare you for the rest of the day.
3. Your phone has more photos of your pooch than anything else.
Because you know everyone wants to see your precious baby in his adorable Halloween costume over those boring vacation photos anyway.
4. You share all your major meals together.
They are the peanut butter to your jelly or more specifically the one who eats the crust from your peanut butter and jelly, or the crusty edge off your macaroni and cheese, the burnt part off your cheese toasty… well, you get it.
5. They keep your darkest secrets.
The fact that they can’t recite your secrets doesn’t hurt, but even if they could you know they would never do that.
6. Their birthday is a bigger deal than your own.
You make them a peanut butter cake and buy them a new toy all because you know that this day is special, this day starts the beginning of yet another fantastic year with you.
7. You treat them as your equal.
There is no hierarchy in your household. You both live there and you deserve the chance to sit on the couch and snuggle under the blankets. After all, you both work very hard.
8. You forgive them almost immediately.
One look in those adorable guilt ridden eyes and you know immediately that they didn’t mean it.
9. They’re the only ones you want to see after a long day.
You know those days when you’re running late, spill your coffee and the rest of day just seems to get continually worse? Well at the end of those days, you get to come home to your 50-pound bundle of joy, and everything is OK.
10. You are basically on the same wavelength.
One head nod and they know exactly what you want. Who needs a dog that can catch a Frisbee when yours can read your mind?
