"You can't pick your family, but you can pick your best friend." But if your cousin is your best friend then that quote doesn't apply to you. It's very rare to grow up with a cousin and then also grow up and have them as a best friend as well. Honestly, if my cousin wasn't my cousin I think we would still be best friends. Just because you share blood makes the friendship better because you love each other either way. Having a cousin as a best friend is a blessing in disguise. You may not realize it at a young age, but when you grow up that's when you know for sure how great the blessing actually is. Here are 10 signs that your cousin is your best friend.
1. They understand your crazy family.
Since you both share the same family, you understand that your family members can be a little much. Whether it's at a family function or just a low key night at the house, your cousin knows how wild your family members can get without an explanation.
2. You two have pretty much the same group of friends.
Since you guys are around each other a lot, your friends become their friends and vice versa. At first you get jealous that your cousin is hanging with one of your best friends but then over time you realize that you guys share the same group of friends. Sharing the same group of friends makes having parties a little bit easier and a little bit hard too. It's easy because less invites you have to send out since you guys talk to the same 5 people. It's hard because when you have a family/friend party the friend aspect is lacking a little bit since you share the same friends.
3. You have no boundaries between each other.
You grew up probably having to take bath's together, so odds are when you grow up you don't care about changing or going to the bathroom in front of each other. You've learned to pee with the door open so you can still talk to each other. Sharing the bed has become a second nature to you guys. Snapchatting on toilet is just a part of your day now.
4. They give the best advice.
No matter the situation, they have the best advice to tell you. You and your mom get into a fight? Your cousin has advice to calm you and her down. Having troubles in school? Your cousin can help you study for that certain class.
5. You two never really fight.
Fighting is common with friends and cousins, but if your cousin is your best friend then you wont have as many fights. The worst thing you could possibly fight about is where you guys want to go for dinner or who's house do you want to hang out at.
6. Your mom's buy food for each other.
You are each others house so often that when your mom goes food shopping, she buys food for your best friend to make sure that they don't starve.
7. They are the person you tell everything too.
You tell each other everything from each others love lives to your deepest darkest secrets. Odds are is that they have lived through the same things.
8. You can sit and do nothing with each other.
You never get sick of sitting in silence. You've gotten used to not always having to say anything all the time that silence is a normal.
9. They've seen you at the worst.
They've lived through your awkward stage with you. They've seen you when someone broke your heart. They've seen you with that horrible hair cut.
10. Most of all, they always will be in your life.
You guys don't have to worry about not ever being friends because you guys are bonded by blood. You guys will be making chaos when you are old.
So here's to us being best friends and cousins because God couldn't handle us as sisters.
