Have you ever found yourself trying to give yourself a pep talk for a conversation on the phone? Or practicing what you will say to a person in a conversation you know you are about to have? If you're anything like me, you have the tendency of being a bit awkward in social situations. Here are 10 signs that you are an awkward individual. Have no fear! You are not alone. Plus, some people really love our quirky personalities!
1. Phone conversations are the worst.
Whether it's a conversation with a future employer or your crush, you are constantly in a state of fear of phone conversations. The thought of not being able to edit yourself like on a text is terrifying. If you say something dumb, it's out there. There's no turning back....
2. You're a total klutz.
You always have to have a game-plan for how you will maneuver your body from point A to point B, because if you don't, bad things could happen.
3. Dancing is out of the question.
If you can barely move yourself from A to B without tripping and falling, what makes you think that moving everywhere in between will be any different? Oh, and if you throw heels into the mix, you're never leaving your chair, even to get a drink.
4. People assume that you are stuck up.
Some people assume that you are stuck up, or believe that you think you are better than them, simply because you are quiet. This is simply not true, because we're only quiet to avoid putting our own foot in our mouth.
5. You have no idea what to say or how to act in serious moments.
If someone gets hurt or tells you something sad that has happened, you have no idea how to react. You are constantly questioning whether or not your response is appropriate. Should I dial my emotion down? Or should I dial it up?
6. Flirting is a nightmare.
Lucky for me, I am married, so this stage is over. But in the past, I was terrible at flirting. Something sounds cute in your mind, but when you actually say it, you wish you could take it back.
7. You hate eating in front of people.
I don't really worry about this as much anymore, but sometimes I still do. I don't like the feeling of someone watching me eat (even though they probably aren't watching). What if you spill something on your shirt? What if the food you eat gets stuck in your teeth and they don't tell you?
8. Public speaking is exhausting.
Whether it's for class, a wedding or your job, public speaking exhausts you. You already know you hate phone conversations, so take that and multiply it by a million and then you'll have public speaking. It's not that you won't do it, you just have to prepare for it. And prepare for it again. And then again.
9. Trying to be witty is out of the question.
Once again, something sounds great in your head, until it gets out there. There are very few things that are worse than telling a joke you thought would get a lot of laughs and all you get are awkward smiles instead.
10. Saying goodbye is weird...
What does this person get? A hug? A handshake? A high-five? And if I hug them, is it a side hug or a full embrace hug? Did I hug them good enough? Or was that too much?
If any of these apply to you, you may be a slightly awkward individual. But like I said, have no fear! There are a lot of us out there. A lot of people really love our quirky personalities. Why do you think the "Big Bang Theory" and "New Girl" are so popular?
