Netflix is amazing. I'm stating the obvious, I know, but what I really love about Netflix is the selection. There are so many TV shows and movies I have discovered and adored thanks to Netflix. I've created a list of the top shows that are worth binge watching the next time you have a few hours or days to kill. A lot of these are lesser known but since they are in the Netflix selection, hopefully they will gain a larger audience.
1. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
Seasons: 10
Still on Air: Yes
A show about five narcissistic friends coming up with schemes and ultimately failing. This show is about horrible people doing horrible things so it takes a certain kind of humor to love this show. If you don't take things too seriously, this might be a show you can enjoy.
2. "Star-Crossed"
Seasons: 1
Still on Air: No
I'll admit when this was on air, I wasn't interested in watching it. The previews were heavy on the forbidden romance but when I actually gave it a try, it was so much more than that. Aliens crash onto Earth and they aren't met with a warm welcome. Integration is attempted when a group of alien teens are enrolled in the human high school. This show has only 1 season before it was canceled but it's filled with drama and moral questions. It's definitely worth a watch.
3. "Freaks and Geeks"
Seasons: 1
Still on Air: No
This show was aired in the late 90's so it's understandable why many people in my generation haven't seen it. With major actors like James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Jason Segel, it's no excuse to continue to not watch it. This show is about two different groups of outcasts and their lives. This is definitely a cult classic.
4. "The Almighty Johnsons"
Seasons: 3
Still on Air: No
This New Zealand show is different and fun. About four brothers who happen to be reincarnations of Norse gods. The quests and shenanigans they get into are hilarious and fun. This is a show easy to get caught up in.
5. "The 100"
Seasons: 3
Still on Air: Yes
Earth was destroyed by a nuclear war and humans took to space living in space stations. This show starts with 100 delinquent teens being sent back to Earth to see if it is able to be repopulated upon once again. Reminiscent of "Lord of the Flies", this series has an awesome premise. Be prepared to get hooked and unable to stop watching.
6. "Lost Girl"
Seasons: 5
Still on Air: Yes
This Canadian show airs in the US but isn't very well known. It follows a succubus who tries to find out more about her past while solving mysteries with her human best friend. This addictive show is easily one of my favorites because of how complex the show is. While there are many episodes that will make you cry, the jokes are endless and will leave you loving the characters like they are family.
7. "Bitten"
Seasons: 3
Still on Air: Yes
Based on Kelley Armstrong's books, I was super thrilled to learn this became a TV series. Elena is the only female werewolf in the world and she currently lives in Toronto. Her pack from New York calls her home when rogue werewolves start killing close to home. Packed with twists and turns, this show is a fun take on werewolves.
8. "The Originals"
Seasons: 3
Still on Air: Yes
This show is more than it looks. Set in New Orleans this show is very complex. There is a war between the vampires, werewolves, witches, and humans and it's extremely entertaining to watch.
9."Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"
Seasons: 2
Still on Air: Yes
A Netflix original. Takes place after Kimmy is released from a bunker her cult leader kept her in. She moves to New York to start life over again. This show is inspiring and energetic. You can't help but love Kimmy and root for her.
10. "Scrotal Recall"
Seasons: 1
Still on Air: Yes
Dylan finds out he has an STD and in each episode he goes to a girl he has slept with and tells her she has to get tested as well. Each episode we find out how he met the girl and get a glimpse into how his life has turned out to what it is in the present. A Netflix original that is definitely worth watching one weekend.
