I've been super fortunate in the fact that my roommates ended up being my closest friends in New York. I understand that not everyone managed to get this lucky, but if you're someone who has roommates that you even slightly enjoy, here are the 10 best things about sharing your living space with your pals.
1. You always have someone around who's up for adventures.
OK, so maybe "adventures" are just things like going down the street to get Thai food at 11 at night but sometimes we actually do cool things too.
2. Your wardrobe doubles (or in my case, triples) in size.
If you can't find just the right outfit for that internship interview or night out in your own closet, it's probably in your roommate's (honestly what clothes are mine and what clothes are theirs at this point? I couldn't tell you..)
3. You have your own advice counsel/therapist two feet from your own desk.
Roommate pep talks are the best pep talks. And sometimes you're the one giving the advice, but it's still nice to live with people who brighten your day by cultivating an open and encouraging environment yet still know how to be (brutally) honest.
4. It's like a little family
You all have your own separate lives that come with separate friend groups and different activities but at the end of the day, you get to come home to the same people who share your grievances about life and school and sometimes you solve these things with a late night karaoke session. Or maybe you don't but we do but whatever.
5. Someone always has a key, even when you don't.
So now I won't have a repeat of that one time in high school I locked myself out of my house and had to pay $85 for a locksmith..but that's another story.
6. You always have a second opinion on your outfit.
This is nice because it keeps you from walking out the door looking like Britney Spears during her 2007 mental breakdown.
7. You always have someone to go to the gym with you.
And if you weren't planning on going, when they do go you feel guilty about not going, so then, you go. Yay for fitness (?)
8. You always have someone to help you split the cleaning responsibilities.
Dibs on not being the one to cleaning the shower this week...
9. SOMEONE ALWAYS HAS SNACKS.
this is the most important thing and no one can argue.
10. And lastly, life is just more fun when you live with your pals.
Having a friend greet you at the door comes second only to being greeted by a puppy.
Life is good but life is better when you have good roommates :)))
