11 Reasons Why Your Birthday Is The Best Day Of The Year

You can ask anyone what is their favorite holiday, they'll respond with Easter, the Fourth of July or Christmas. Well, maybe we should reinvent that question. Asking, "What's your favorite day of the year?" may open a whole new playing field. Growing up, I always thought my birthday was a holiday, and I remember being devastated when I found out the truth. The following are reasons why your birthday is the best day of the year.

1. Being around the people you love.

Your birthday is a day to meet up with friends and catch up, have a few drinks or grab a bite to eat!

2. Having a day where the attention is all on you!

As you walk across campus or corridors, people will be saying "Happy birthday!" to you all day long!

3. Family meals

Every birthday my mom always asks me, "What do you want me to make you for your birthday?" or we'll go out to eat. Either way, we find ourselves together surrounded by great food. Having family meals are my favorite part about birthdays!

4. Presents

Not everyone gets birthday presents, but if you are one who does, I'm sure you know how fortunate you are. Birthday presents are its own breed. For a spouse, it could mean the announcement of a new baby or an engagement ring. For others, it could be a dozen roses. Either way you put it, birthday presents are a special thing.

5. Birthday cake

Birthday cake, for some reason, tastes way better when it's your own. Most people get their cakes custom baked these days, but nothing beats a homemade birthday cake with some ice cream.

6. Your Facebook is ringing off the hook.

It's one thing for your phone to be ringing all day, but then you have your Facebook wall. As you log in mid day, you already have 50 birthday posts on your wall. It's just another way for people to tell you they're thinking of you on your special day.

8. Talking to everyone who is important in your life

As I mentioned, your phone and social media accounts are ringing all day, so you get the chance to reconnect with people. You get the opportunity to spark a conversation when they call to tell you happy birthday. Catching up with loved ones is always a comforting feeling.

9. Celebrations

Some people have birthday parties, others go out on the town. Either way, you're going to have some fun on your birthday night or birthday weekend. Cheers!

10. It's a day to call yours.

In the big picture, your birthday is a day dedicated to no one else but you! Your birthday is your day. Do what you want and be happy. You deserve it!

11. Birthday coupons

I almost forgot, birthday coupons! Birthday coupons are the absolute best! You get 15 percent off here, $10 off 20 to there, free birthday gifts from Sephora – it's great!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
