What are you doing on February 20th at noon? You should be at CMU's Polar Plunge. It is an event put on by Special Olympics Michigan that raises money for athletes to participate in the summer and winter games. It takes place in the O'Kelly's parking lot. Here are the top 10 reasons to take the plunge.
10. Free Drinks
Every person that jumps will either get two free drink tickets (if 21) or a ticket for free food. If you've never had O'Kelly's food before, you're in for a pleasant surprise.
9. The pictures
Think of the Instagram captions and Snaps. The surprises are endless.
8. Funny costumes
It's a tradition for participants taking the plunge to dress up in fun costumes. So pull out your tutus, superhero outfits, and matching shirts. If you didn't go all out this halloween, this is your chance.
7. Cool prizes
You can win prizes like shirts, buttons and gift cards to your favorite places downtown. All you have to do is enter the hashtag contest by taking a picture with the Polar Bear on campus. There's also a greek contest for a discount on custom clothing from Duo Studio Designs.
6. Something new to do
It's no secret Mount Pleasant doesn't have much to do. Try changing up your Saturday and jumping into a freezing pool of water with your friends.
5. Once in a lifetime experience
Like nothing you've ever done before. This experience is thrilling like skydiving and bungee jumping, but safer. The event will have an onsite ambulance to take care of all medical problems. After you plunge, you can escape inside to toasty O'Kelly's.
4. Be part of something bigger than yourself
Waiting for your change to give back? Here it is. See how good giving back feels.
3. Chance to bond with a group
Get your residence hall, RSO, group of friends or co-workers to form a team. Nothing will connect your group more than raising money for a good cause.
2. It's a good cause
The games are life changing for the athletes. For every 2 people who jump, enough money for one athlete is raised. This year's goal is $70,000.
1. You can be responsible for an athlete's smile
Not only a smile on their faces, but their family's faces, friends' faces and even your own face. Seeing how hard they work to compete is truly inspiring.
