Your sister is one of the most important friends that you will ever have in your life. She is the one who will always be there no matter what, even though she can get on your nerves when she steals your clothes or sleeps in your bed while you're away at school. She's the one who answers your text at 4 a.m. when you can't sleep and will send you hysterical snapchats to cheer you up when you've had a rough day.
Family Events
Everyone has different definitions of these types of events and well, your sister just gets it. When you get together with your family and everyone is asking too many questions or they're yelling over the turkey at Thanksgiving, your sister just completely understands, and laughs along with it.
Keeping Secrets
Whether it's a deep, dark terrible secret that no one can know or you got an F on your chemistry exam, your sister will take it with her to the grave. Your secrets are her secrets and vice versa. There is no breaking a bond like that when your sister is your best friend.
Brutal Honesty
Your sister is the one who will tell you that "yes, you do look fat in those jeans, but it's okay because that skirt makes you look hot." She will take what you say to her with a grain of salt, and you can both be completely and openly honest with each other.
The Look
You and your sister have several of these unspoken glances and you basically can read each others minds. Whether it's slightly narrowing your eyes to get her to shut up when talking to your parents or it's glaring at each other when your brother is antagonizing you.
Fights
You can start the day by screaming at each other and end it laying in bed laughing hysterically at Netflix and old photos. No matter how bad the fight is, it can (and will) be over in 5 minutes and you'll both be laughing hysterically at how pointless it was.
Memories
Your sister knows about your first crush, and what you wore on Halloween when you were 7 years old. Your sister carries life long memories of staying the night at your grandparents house, building blanket forts, going sleigh riding on the golf course with your dad and watching Disney movies together all day. She was the one who you would rely on to spray your neighbors with the hose when they were mean, and she was the one who cut your hair when it got caught in the dalmatian costume you both put on even though it was Christmas.
Venting
She's the one who totally gets how annoying your boyfriend is. Or how annoying your best friend is. Or how annoying everyone is. She's the one you can vent to over anything and everything and you know that she won't ever tell a soul. You can tell her that you're frustrated with mom, or you're frustrated with the fact that mom won't cook what you want for dinner. She gets how annoying your brother can be, but how much you both love him after he's done being annoying.
You share the same friends
Your sister is not only your friend but her friends are your friends and vice versa. Your sister and your friends are one giant team, and you do most everything together. Having your sister in your friend group makes life a lot easier because she knows who you're talking about when you text her saying, "Did you know so and so broke up?!?"
#1 Supporter
Your sister is the one you go to when you think of a new scheme to earn you both something cool, like a new dress or a way to convince your dad to buy you something. She's the one who supports you when no one else does, and she stands by you even when you don't make the best decisions. Your sister will be the one screaming her head off for you when you get that job you've wanted for over a year, and you'll be the one screaming your head off for her when she scores a goal for her soccer team. She is the one who will stand up for you to anyone and everyone, even when you both know you're wrong.
She gets you
She's the one who knows how you like your tea, and when you want a slice of cake. She knows how grumpy you get when you're hungry and she knows when you are sad without even telling her. She knows what song to play and when and what show you want to watch. She knows that you love to take crazy pictures and loves to take them with you. Your sister is the only person in the world who loves you completely and without judgement.
